Maida Coleman next to jump into mayor’s race?
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Coleman
Word is that State Sen. Maida Coleman — her career in Jefferson City facing its term limit — could be next in line to challenge Mayor Francis Slay.
With filing opening today, Slay has already one challenger — former Alderman Irene J. Smith, who also ran against Slay in 2005.
Now, Coleman appears poised to also enter the race.
Taking on Slay will be tough for any city official. The mayor has strong name recognition, and more than $1 million in his bank account.
Coleman has flirted with running for other offices before — such city license collector and state auditor, both of which she ultimately decided against.

C’MON, MAIDA! I hope you realize just how many people are gunning to back you if you decide to do it. I will certainly be one of them.
Maida was my state senator, and she was fantastic! Everytime I needed anything I could call her and she’d help if she could, but she’d at least listen even if she couldn’t help. I hope Smith will drop out and help Maida who has a better chance to win. Run, Maida, Run!
Maida is a nice person - but she isn’t mayoral material. She barely could handle her senatorial job.
She might make a good department head as chief listener but mayor - forget about it.
HA HA HA LOL! Maida Coleman for Mayor, HA HA HA! She was a completely ineffective State Senator, what did she accomplish? I think she was able to travel around the world on our dime. Is this the same Maida Coleman that was going to run for License Collector, then State Auditor, then License Collector. But when the Post wrote that she had file bankruptcy twice she was forced to withdraw her candidacies? Really, do we need a Mayor who can’t ballance her check book?
She was elected by her peers to be minority leader so I doubt she is as bad as some of youse say.
I’ve known Maida since I was an intern at the State Capitol (her first term), she is a great woman that works hard for her constituents and is not governed purely by ideology. She would be a great Mayor, a real representative of the people!
As someone who is looking for a chance to vote against Mayor Slay I must say the first two candidates, Elston McGowen and Irene Smith offered me nothing. If Maida runs I would be proud to vote for her and I predict others might be as well.
> As someone who is looking for a chance to vote against Mayor Slay
And why would you be looking for that? Slay has done an admirable job of navigating the city through some very tough times. His executive ability is far superior to those who are challenging him. Slay clearly deserves reelection.
Why would we be looking to vote for someone else for Mayor? Because, Nick, as someone who actually lives in the city, my family is worse off, in the ways in which city government affects us, than it was before Slay started. That’s why. Anyway, the man is not entitled to the office, although if he could figure out a way to get himself appointed by the governor and skip the whole “servant of the people” thing I’m sure he would. He should have challengers and he should have to earn the job.
The fact that Kasoff is shilling for Slay is exactly the reason people want to vote against him. Slay is a Republican in Democrats clothing. Go for it Maida!
