Missouri officially a red state — but barely
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
This just in from the Associated Press:
Republican John McCain has defeated President-elect Barack Obama in Missouri _ the last state to be decided in the 2008 presidential election.
McCain’s narrow victory over Obama breaks a bellwether streak in which Missourians had picked the winning presidential candidate in every election since 1956.
With all jurisdictions reporting complete but unofficial results, McCain led Obama by 3,632 votes Wednesday out of more than 2.9 million cast _ a margin of 0.12 percentage points.

This only slightly embarrassing for me. The St. Louis area, and Missouri, has taken so many kick to the nuts lately that I’ve become numb. Losing the final four tournament, losing AB, metrolink loses voting approval, and now the state goes Red….in one of the most important elections in my lifetime.
St. Louis city and county got it right, but go outside the county lines…and this is still rebuplican country. That probably won’t change for a while, amazingly.
This state is not red, it’s a deep purple and it’s going to be bluer in 2 years when Kit Bond is pummeled by Robin Carnahan and even bluer in 4 when Obama wins MO handily.
“Enjoy” it now, Palinites.
No big surprise here! Missouri simply does not represent a true cross section of the country anymore due to the changing demographics in the nation. While most states have seen an increase in the latino and oriental poplulations, we have not had this occur today. It still shocks us to see latinos perform landscaping and lawncare instead of the teen up the street. Many things still don’t effect us to the extremes that occur in the coastal states, in the deep south or the upper north. We are still the laid back southern state located in the north. All good things, even overrated ones must come to an end. So the same goes for the status as a bellweather state!
I can get the internet in my car, send a text message to my friends in New York and people are flying into space all the time…but it takes us over 2 weeks to find out who the president is…something about this just doesn’t seem right.
Guess what Missouri Repulicans - this time you got it WRONG…and if you vote for Palin in 2012 you will be WRONG…again
It really sucks that Mccain won our state. I am still proud of all those people that waitned in the long lines in the city and voted for president elect Obama. Maybe one of these days some of the outer part of this state will catch up with the rest of us in MIssouri! For now at least the right man won the overall election and for that I am happy!
What an embarrassment. This state will never change….way too many right wing fanatics that hate diversity.
psh even when palin cursed legace and the blues people still voted for the republicans?
It was a foregone conclusion 48 hours after the votes were tallied. However, to appease Willy Junior, who wanted the illegally cast provisional votes in his district to count for Obama, little Ms Robin Democrat waited until now to certify the results. Apparently the majority of those provisional ballots were illegally cast. Not surprising considering the area from which they came. Albeit, the majority of Missourians registered correctly and voted legally and that’s why McCain/Palin took Missouri. Nobama for Missourians, and now it’s certified that way.
Thank goodness for the people in Missouri who don’t get their newa from SNL, Katie Couric or John Stewart. It is good to know there are enough people in Missouri who actually remember studying in school what Socialism is, and that it has been proven time and time again to be a failed government system. It is amazing to me how many people do not understand that CHANGE = SOCIALISM in this last election. And oh by the way, where is all this “so-called” CHANGE that Obama ran on? So far all his appointees are Clinton re-treads, and Al Qaeda’s second in command Zawahri has already lobbed insults and warnings to Obama. This is serious business folks; I sincerely hope Obama is a strong President for us. There are people intent on destroying America, let’s see how funny this is to SNL and Jon Stewart, who make fun of people as being “stupid” if they disagree with their viewpoints. Maybe Katie Couric can come up with a serious question for Obama when she interviews him, instead of the stupid questions she asked of Palen during the election process - Couric totally missed the boat on that nterview and showed herself to be inept of the real issues at hand.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
