Missouri officially a red state — but barely

This just in from the Associated Press:

Republican John McCain has defeated President-elect Barack Obama in Missouri _ the last state to be decided in the 2008 presidential election.
McCain’s narrow victory over Obama breaks a bellwether streak in which Missourians had picked the winning presidential candidate in every election since 1956.
With all jurisdictions reporting complete but unofficial results, McCain led Obama by 3,632 votes Wednesday out of more than 2.9 million cast _ a margin of 0.12 percentage points.

Hey Clint, you do realize that there is nothing sinister about a provisional ballot, right? It’s a ballot cast in the event a voter’s registration can’t be immediately verified for some reason, and it, by design, is only counted if the registration can be verified. There is nothing “illegal” about a provisional ballot, regardless of whether or not it is counted.

^^^^^^ WOW….you right wing fanatics never cease to amaze me. You know that Missouri also has some of the worst funded education and healthcare in the country, thanks to our “pull your self up by your bootstraps, even if I have my foot on your neck” minded Republican legislature! Oh yes we have 800 million in the treasury, but what good is that when schools are failing, people cant afford healthcare and public transit is left to fail. Oh yes….the answer to all of our problems is fiscal conservatism, social conservatism, conservative conservatism…..lets just conserve and conserve and conserve while the pie keeps shrinking and shrinking and shrinking! Its funny how people on these blogs always mock Illinois taxes and cost of living, but never bring up that Illinois has better schools, hospitals, infrastructure, economic growth, diversity and is home to a world class city that we continue to despise for the next 100 years! Man those Dems have really ruined Illinois!

The preceding post about socialism and John Stewart–it’s a parody, right? I mean, do we still have members of the U.N. Black Helicopter crowd running around loose? What’s that? Oh, I see. We do. SLU Professor Ken Warren got it right on Fox 2 when he chalked this whole thing up to the “redneck, racist vote” in MO. Thirty-eight per-cent of the population in MO. is evangelical Christian. That means twits who think being African-American is the mark of Cain, who believe the Flintstones was a documentary, and who believe in ghosts and spirits but not in evolution. As long as these double-digit IQ dweebs are running around, this is what we get.

i guess everytime i’m handed CHANGE, it is SOCIALISM.
or when i CHANGE my pants it is SOCIALIST.
or in 2000 when bush said that the ‘nation is daring and decent and ready for CHANGE’ should be read as the ‘nation is daring and decent and ready for SOCIALISM.’

I am proud of Missourians, they ignored the name calling and bigotry from those with different viewpoints and dismissed the biased media to stand by their convictions and vote for who they thought to be the best candidate.

Here’s what socialism is……giving 700 billion to Wall Street, giving billions to the insurance industry, bailing out the auto industry…that’s socialism at its finest. As Jon Stewart wisely stated on one of his shows, with big business, we socialize their losses and privatize their profits.

If you don’t believe me, default on your car loan and see if GM will throw your account into their bailout plan.

Missouri is a red state…just barely. Big deal. On the brighter side the right wing zealots can throw their conspiracy theories about Robin Carnahan fabricating votes out the window. It was a close race so she was obligated to make sure the count was legit.

Regarding socialism… I don’t think most of the right wing bobbleheads know what it means. They throw the term around loosely and as a scare tactic… First of all, most younger voters don’t even remember the Cold War so the label made no impact during the election. Second, our current Republican President has engaged in more socialism and big government than any other in recent history. Government bailouts and nation building… It is no wonder why the Republican party is in shambles… they lost their core values. The religious right has made abortion the number one issue for their party.

They better get their act together and figure out what issues really matter to Main Street Americans.

My grandmother was calling the MO legislature “mossbacks” 30 years ago and she was 82 at the time!! While she was conservative herself, she believed the state should progress with the times. Obviously, it hasn’t. Now Missouri can be called the Mossback State rather than the Bellwether state. We complain about the strife in our lives, but by Gum, don’t CHANGE (will this be edited out for profanity?) anything or try to make anything better!

We will simply look to 2012 for MO to become a blue state……..or purple, as President-Elect Obama has stated.

Missouri joins Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Kansas as another red state. Total bummer. Especially for an election like this one, where it was so blatantly obvious which candidate was the more intelligent and capable leader.

“I don’t believe in that there global warmings, I reads about it on the internets! Don’t let them gosh darn homos get married and pass the butter please!”

Oh, Sue D, you are such a Sore Loserman.

I wish Couric would ask Obama tough questions, like “where you get your news?”

I am so scared of socialism because Rush Limbaugh told me to be.

This is so great. I can’t wait until Obama measures the drapes!!
