This just in from the Associated Press:

Republican John McCain has defeated President-elect Barack Obama in Missouri _ the last state to be decided in the 2008 presidential election.
McCain’s narrow victory over Obama breaks a bellwether streak in which Missourians had picked the winning presidential candidate in every election since 1956.
With all jurisdictions reporting complete but unofficial results, McCain led Obama by 3,632 votes Wednesday out of more than 2.9 million cast _ a margin of 0.12 percentage points.

Well, now Missouri’s new motto can be “Losers for Losers”.

What a source of embarassment my home state is!! How can voters pick a Democrat for Governor and vote Republican for the Presidential candidate?
No! The question is not how! The question is WHY!! And I think we all know the real answer!

Right you are that there have been on attacks in America since 9/11. Tell me……….prior to that when was the last time America was attacked on AMERICAN SOIL by foreigners? Can’t, can ya? It should tell you something with Colin Powell steps down b/c he himself doesn’t agree with his Commander in Chief.
Anyway, I have no issue with good healthcare, I have no issue with telling people they can’t pack a 747 assault rifle, and I have no issue with homosexuals getting married. More important issues on the table than that.

What is really sad about some of these comments is the charge made that if you voted for McCain/Palin, you were racist. That drum has been beat to death and only the most ignorant of our society falls for it anymore. This country has bent over backward since WWII to try and ensure opportunity for everyone. Now that Obama is president, society can be more vocal in denouncing the racist accusation. Those yelling racist are those who still have their hands out rather than pitching in and applying themselves to the task. Try earning your way instead of expecting others to foot your expenses.

to answer LibrlLft - it was February 26, 1993…that was the last time before September 11th, 2001 that America was attacked on AMERICAN SOIL by foreigners.

Oh well. I take solace in knowing that I live in one of the bluest, most Democratic locales in the United States– St. Louis City. In fact St. Louis City is actually bluer than many major cities in blue states. This is a classic case of Missouri vs. Missourah and this time Missourah won (unfortunately). But that’s okay. The urban/rural dichotomy is not unique to this state. All this election does is solidify the perception that Missourah is full of backwoods, ignorant, racist white trash who vote against their own best interests. That’s okay because St. Louis and its surrounding suburbs are somewhat insulated from that mentality. For all those scorned Missouri Democrats– don’t blame St. Louis for this call. Feel sorry for it instead.

A landslide victory for Jay Nixon, a narrow loss for Barack Obama. Each man endorsed the other; both men come from the same party; both men hold essentially the same political points of view. How does one win by such a huge margin and one not?

It’s downright shameful.

Reminds me of the old joke: How do you describe Missouri? St. Louis on one side, Kansas City on the other and West Virginia in-between. (Apologies to Columbia)

Didn’t you notice all the states and cities run by demicrats are failing!
New York, California or Washington DC, Oakland, Houston, Atlanta, Detroit and by the way St.Louis, GET THE POINT!

for all of you hate mongers in here that suggest that I voted against Obama but for Jay Nixon because I am a racist, I just want to say that I voted against Obama because of his inexperience, the fact that he almost refused to make his votes public in the Senate (by voted present most of the time), for making it sound like a vote against him was racist, and because he wanted to double the capital gains tax (even Clinton LOWERED the captial gains tax)
