Mo GOP points to Simmons’ past as a lobbyist
To underscore its role in the coming years as the political opposition, the Missouri Republican Party just sent out an e-mail highlighting the lobbyist work conducted by Kelvin Simmons, named earlier this week by Gov.-elect Jay Nixon, as Democrat, as his choice for the state Office of Administration.
Simmons is the former head of the Missouri Public Service Commission and had been a top aide to former Gov. Bob Holden, also a Democrat.
Said the Mo GOP: “In a remarkable development, the big-city liberal media has refused to report that Kelvin Simmons, Governor-elect Nixon’s first pick for a cabinet position, is a registered lobbyist. Not that there is anything wrong with that, they just seem obsessed with Republican lobbyists and their ties to elected officials so we felt obliged to comment on this little pearl.
“Kelvin Simmons is a registered lobbyist for SWOPE Community Builders who currently has a $1.4 million tax credit application pending before the Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC) to which Nixon is a voting member….”

The criticism rings rather hollow in view of the last four years of Lobbyist/Governor’s Brother Andy Blunt and his shenanigans exploiting his brother’s administration.
These poor, bitter repubs will never get over losing their golden boy Blunt. There is still something behind the story of his sudden resignation that no one is talking about. And how dare the media try to ruin his good name after he ruined the lives of thousands of Missourians with his medicaid scam. I really feel sorry for Blunt and his posse.
I am already weary of this GOP tactic of flinging charges of liberal media bias while stubbornly insisting outlets are “refusing” to report the slightest tidbits of information that are not inherently newsworthy. Show me some corruption or abuse of power or shut up.
Oh Brother! What is the first thing the Dems do? Bring in a retread from “Mr. Excitment” Bob Holden’s Administration. I guess that is CHANGE you can count on, huh? Washington and Jeff City are alike, the more things CHANGE, the more they STAY THE SAME!
Dear Little One. Knowing Kelvin personally, something you don’t, he’s hardly a retread. Being head of the Missouri PSC is not like being on the Governor’s staff. The Missouri GOP’s response about “big city liberal media” in regards to his appointment shows their lack of creativity and direction. The Missouri GOP once had a great daily, the St. Louis Globe Democrat, to funnel their news. They went out of business. The Missouri GOP usually fails in getting people energized about their candidates and campaigns.
If nothing else this story should tell us three things:
Missouri Democrats have a very shallow bench if they must bring in failed aids from Holden’s Administration. and;
The media once again shows it’s true colors by not reporting that Simmons is/was a lobbyist… treating Democrats differently than Republicans
Mr Simmons: prove us all wrong about you… give up the job or the 1.4 million tax credit… one or the other. If not then we know that the Nixon Administration will be crooked.
Scott Simon - perhaps you don’t call the former PSC chair a retread but surely would admit that as Gov Holden’s Director of DED would qualify? Did you forget that part of your personal knowledge of Kelvin?
I happened to like Kelvin. He is very personable. I don’t agree with some of his political beliefs but find him a friendly guy.
