More party chairman rumors: This time, it’s Blunt

Blunt
Last week, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill quickly shot down rumors that she was being considered to take the helm of the Democratic National Committee after her work as one of Barack Obama’s most reliable surrogates.
Now, the rumor mill turns for Republican Gov. Matt Blunt, who will be out of a job come January.
From a story in The Hill newspaper in Washington, which details Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan’s push to keep his job:
GOPers inside the Beltway and around the country discussed a list of about 20 high-profile or rising-star Republicans being circulated by Duncan opponents who want a bigger name at the RNC.
The list contained such GOP luminaries as former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt, Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt, former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, although Romney is not interested in the post, a key GOP insider said.
Steele — the GOPAC chairman who brought the phrase “dril, baby, drill!” into the 2008 campaign lexicon — seems like a viable choice.
But considering that Blunt often pined for his home in Springfield while in Jefferson City, it seems unlikely that he would take a job that could take him away from his family even more than being governor.
Although, if Blunt were interested in taking a bigger role in the GOP, getting photographed next to Sarah Palin is not a bad place to start.
UPDATE:
Missouri GOP spokeswoman Tina Hervey said this afternoon, “Blunt is honored to be thought of as a rising star in the party and capable of leading the party forward.”

I really hope they give the job to Blunt. If we can count on him to be as good of a party leader as he was a governor, than 2010/12 will be a great year…for democrats.
I second the motion. I cannot think of a better Democratic nominee for Republican National Chairman than Matt Blunt. Democrats can finish running the table in 2010. Let’s draft BLUNT!
Steele is the guy.
I guess the sexually explicit content of the “missing” e-mails has yet to be revealed. Sodomy with a prominent Branson developer should introduce some excitement into the room …
What jjk said.

Well estovivt, it looks like the papers have stopped censoring the comments about Blunt.
steele is by far the best choice for the Republicans, although I must say, I hope they pick Blunt.
Kenny Hulshof has to be wondering where his next paycheck is coming from. With Gov. Blunt out of the picture, Hulshof’s chances of getting a state-level appointment from one of the few remaining Republican office-holders is better.
I say either Blunt, Steele or Newt — all three of them have good reform ideas (for both the party and the country), and are strong on conservative principles like the 2nd Amendment, the sanctity of life and low taxes. But if I had to choose of one of the three — I’d go with Blunt. He kept our state red when a blue tide was washing across the region. It shows that Blunt has the credentials to win elections for Republicans and govern with a commonsense conservative agenda.
Agree with Jack here - Blunt would be my choice. He’s a rising star, a strong conservative leader, and really represents the philosophical tenets once held so dearly by the Republican party. We need a return to these kind of ideals, and I think Blunt would be a great voice and leader of our party as we attempt to regain our footing.
gosh…
i hope its baby blunt…
teh hee, teh hee!!!
If Gov. Blunt is a “rising star” in the Republican party, then the GOP is in far worse shape than I thought. Of course I guess all of his practice in no-bid contracts, awarding special deals to cousins and other family members probably fits right in with “traditonal Republican values”. Perhaps he will earn the coveted Dick Cheney scholarship.
Matt Blunt sat on his hands and didn’t lift a finger to help Hulshof. He needs to disappear form MO GOP politics and take his brother and preppy sycophants with him. Steele is the guy for the job.
It would take someone like Matt Blunt to use his son as a dodge for an election that he was probably going to lose anyway only to reverse himself and work on behalf of Republicans nationwide. Matt Blunt is one more example of Republicans kicking the little guy when he is down. It will take a generation of Missourians longer to grasp on to this idea. When some of that President-elect Obama “socialism” takes hold of government the rich people in the Republican party will find some cultual issues to scare our rural population into action again. I know that so-called pro-life groups will get plenty of spotlight in the coming months. Maybe Republicans will be able to blame infants for taking jobs.
