Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder

Republican insiders are chirping that the new front-runner for the chairmanship of the state Republican Party might be the last man standing in the most recent election: Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder.

It’s no secret that Kinder, the only Republican to win statewide on Nov. 4, and senior Missouri Sen. Christopher “Kit” Bond, are discussing the future of the party’s leadership. More than likely, the party will soon have a new chairman and executive director.

While Lloyd Smith’s name is being bandied about — Smith is a longtime aide to U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, top GOP insiders say that Kinder is considering serving as an unpaid chairman while also being lieutenant governor. That might open up the paid executive director spot for Smith.

The choice is said to be Kinder’s, though some are trying to talk him out of it. The thinking is that the party chairman can be more aggressive, politically speaking, leaving Kinder out of the mud, which might help as he gears up for a likely run for governor against Jay Nixon in 2012.

You mean they’re not considering that political genius, the greatest strategist of all-time, the hardest working man in politics Jared Craighead for the top job at MRP??

What in the wide world of sports is going on here??

It’s pretty sad when Pete Kinder is the voice of morality over club Craighead at the MO GOP.

Would Smith still be able to work for Emerson, or would he have to leave that post?

If the party wants to re-invent itself, Lloyd Smith should be in the position that would allow him total oversight & freedom to implement his ideas…

Democrats are praying that Peter Kinder becomes the public scowling face and abrasive voice of the Missouri Republican Party. Please let this be true.

Is Peter Kinder married? Does he have any kids?

Lisa, Peter Kinder is only married to his job. Sort of like the Long Ranger only kissing his horse Silver. Unsure about Tonto.

I am grateful that Peter Kinder evidently has not reproduced or been cloned.

The Lite Governor will have a tough time leading the party of tight-ass morality anywhere but Hypocritical Hades when there is this sort of unfinished scandalous business getting media attention.

I agree with MoGOPfan - Put Lloyd Smith in charge of the GOP revitalization. Let Kinder go serve as lieutenant governor and be top dog in the state capital building. As a Republican voter I am less than enthralled with what I have seen and heard of Kinder but if he is all we have we should make the best of it and not overload his plate. I know Lloyd Smith will do a fantastic job and he should wear both hats over on Dunklin Street in Jefferson City.

I do not understand the references to the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Perhaps I am not as hip as the elites on here but if they are suggesting something about Kinder, they should know I have seen him out with women sometimes. Henry Kissinger said power is the ultimate aphrodesiac. Kinder may not have much power now but he should be able to get some dates if he wants to do so.

Peter has a lot of explaining to do about his personal lifestyle if he wants to come clean to the moral majority and bible belt of rural mo. Peter is the master of deceit and redirection so he should be just fine.
