With tax revenues dropping and budget troubles looming, Gov.-elect Jay Nixon has turned to a veteran number-cruncher to help him get a handle on the state’s finances.

Former Sen. Wayne Goode, D-Normandy, will serve as Nixon’s deputy transition director for budget review.

Goode was a legislator for 40 years before retiring in 2004. His tenure included stints heading appropriations committees in both the House and Senate.

Goode is known for slogging through complex issues and calmly synthesizing the information so that it’s understandable. He has rewritten whole chapters of law on social services, education, solid waste and mental health, to name a few areas.

Nixon said Goode is “uniquely qualified to help develop a budget that will move our state forward.” He said Goode would be looking for ways “to provide more efficient service.”

A main reason why term limits was a bad idea. We lost expert legislators who understand how the government operated and replaced his like with ideologues who knew little about people and less about governing.

Good(e) choice by Governor-elect Nixon.

Goat …. term limits are effective in that they ensure government moves forward.

Missouri is sitting very solid in economic terms due to the last couple of years. We have one of the better credit ratings and are surplus is well funded.

Gov. Blunt did an excellent job getting us into fiscal shape, though I think he cut too much. It was effective, but led to some needed services being cut. I hope Nixon nips and tucks here and there and keeps us on solid footing.

I don’t know Goode, but I hope he continues to ensure money is saved and smart decisions made.

A great choice! Wayne Goode is what public service is all about …. he is THE ROLE MODEL that all legislators should eumlate. If Wayne’s appointment is indicative of the Governor-Elects decisions… we are in good hands.

Wayne Good and the Citizens of the State of Missouri are the victims of term limits. It is a shame that we have beem denied his guidance and wisdom for the past 4 yars.

Shouldn’t Jay have talked to the Goode before he made a bunch of promises he is now going to break?

I believe Rita Days won Wayne Goodes seat, Goode was a great lawmaker and its a shame that term limits forced him out. He was a major playing in geeting UMSL to the Normandy area if i am not mistaken.

Hate to break it to all you Goode people but the Senator is one of the prime reasons why the budget got in such a mess. Always wanting to feed the bureacracy - incrase costly entitlement programs and make sure his favorites in social services were taken care of.

Goode is not good for the state budget.

As far as him being term limited - he stayed way too long.

Does this mean Goode will get to “rekindle” his various relationships in Jefferson City?
