Open Comment, Post-election edition!
Once again, it’s Sunday afternoon (a dreary one at that.) And that means Open Comment Time here at Political Fix.
Please post early and often on any subject, politician or event. Judging from the weekend activity on my Saturday posts, there’s still lots of attention focused on Tuesday’s election results.
But as always, you MUST follow our rules. No offensive language, no personal attacks, and please be brief. Also, keep your comments focused on state, regional or local issues or perspectives.
Go for it!

I have provisional ballot questions and thought maybe a Political Fixer might have the answer.
If someone votes on a provisional ballot and upon investigation it is found they are indeed a register voter, they just voted at the wrong polling place.
Does this automatically disqualify the whole ballot?
Or do we count the applicable federal candidates, plus statewide candidates and issues?
What if wrong polling place but still the same ballot style (basically the ballot was exactly the same–even state rep, state senate, county council, etc)–do we count that vote?
While I think we all agree that you throw out unqualified votes for state rep/senate and/or county council, why wouldn’t we count their votes for Governor or President?
Congrats President Elect Obama. While you were not my choice, you won and we can move on — after one little formality. I certain you are qualified for the office, but if you could just submit that birth certificate we can clear this little bit of confusion up. It won’t take long. The one you provided was not sufficient. We need the full, official version please.
Even D. Walker agrees, we should get Obama’s certificate out in the open. It would definitely would help heal the great divide in our country and further show that Obama will follow the rule of law.
I can’t imagine any reason why he does not release it.
Think,
D. Walker already knows that Obama is a U.S. citizen and has a birth certificate filed in the State of Hawaii and have expressed this to you serveral times. Now will you please give it a rest?
thinks the election is over and the myth of the mysterious birth certificate is moot. Besides, there would be at least 1,000 GOP attorney’s working on this if it had any credibility.
Actually, he has not released his original certificate. This is a simple fix, produce the birth certificate! And it is a valid issue.
You want the original? The one signed the day he was born?
Let’s see…he only saw his father once. His mother died when he was young. He was raised by his grandmother. As a boy, he lived 9,000 miles away from his birth place.
Thinkless….If Harvard Law School is satifisfied that he was born in the United States, I think you should leave it alone….
Try to make something out of the “mutt” comment he made Friday.
G,
Besides the point. This is a non issue if he produces his certificate. BTW, I wouldn’t put much creed into what any IVY league school endorses these days!
Methinks there is campaign withdrawal afflicting the Political Fix. Note how agitated everyone gets about whom President-elect Obama should appoint as U.S. attorney. How the conversation has shifted (shrunk?).
I took this dreary Sunday to clean out and organize my bookshelves, long neglected during thee campaign season in favor of monitoring politics on the computer. I am putting the dust cover on the computer for a while and taking down David McCullough’s fine biography of Harry S Truman to get an enjoyable refresher on what public servants should be about, including those who may not look like our image of a president when they step into the Oval Office, but who grow to magnify the job as well as themselves, and by extension, our nation.
One think I like about Barack Obama is that he is supposedly a poker player, as was Harry Truman. Neither man blinks when the pressure is on - at cards, or in crises.
I like that in a leader. Now, go read a book and get some fresh air! The politics will still be waiting.
He hasn’t had to deal with crisis as of yet. And don’t even revert to Ccommunity organizer of Chicago or Illinois Senate! There is no substance.
I just don’t want our US Constitution to be so blatantly ignored. The issue has been raised to the US Supreme Court and even if Obama finally shows us all the birth certificate, it could address one very important issue. Who is responsible for ensuring that presidential candidates meet the natural citizen requirements?
D. Walker, I have told you many times, that he has not proven this. Since you are so confident, tell me which hospital was he born in?

And what is it that President-elect Mutt has actually done to give you this impression?

Well it’ll be interesting to see if BO cuts taxes, fixes health care, creates jobs, and all the other things he promised the last week of the campaign. Good luck BO, we’re all countin’ on ‘ya!
When Bush used his executive authority to open off-shore drilling several months ago, the decline in gas prices started the next day. This morning, Obama announced he will reverse the decision and oil is already up 6%. Get ready to return to $4.00 a gallon and higher. If he does this, his popularity will plumment. Drill Here, Drill Now, Drill as often as possible until there is something better and cheaper.
Think,
Go pick up a copy of your birth certificate, I have had to do that recently. It looks exactly like Obama’s with no hospital name mentioned.
Think that the State of Hawaii is in on this conspiracy delusion going on in your mind? Or, is it just that Think doesn’y think rational thoughts only delusional ones? By the way, just where does that mind of yours think that Obama was born KENYA(AFRICA)?
Is this your way of saying send him back to Africa? (lol). You know, someone said this to me just under six years ago in one of those red parts of Missoura in the St. Louis Metro area.
You do not make sense.
D. Walker,
You’re showing your youth. -What you consider to be a birth certificate is just an acknowledgment of that record. (The same thing that Barack Obama has published.) Note the words at the top -i.e. Certification of Live Birth
An original “Certificate of Live Birth” is signed by a doctor. It notes the hospital, or address, of birth. It also notes the mother’s and father’s dates of birth.
The final determination will involve the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. -Even if it requires extra-judicial means, the CJ’s oath would require him to be satisfied with President-Elect Obama’s status as a “natural born citizen”.

Suzy, if a voter votes provisionally at the wrong polling place their entire ballot is disqualified
Here is my question:
How does Jeff Smith completely blow this election year as chair of the SDCC by losing three seats? This was the year for democrats, one in which there should be a gain in seats for both chambers. How does this opportunity get blown? Probably because Jeff Smith was too worried about other things than getting democrats elected into the senate. maybe getting rid of loss-limits was more of a priority for him this year.
Barack Obama went to one of the most expensive private schools in Hawaii but somehow people continue to believe the media’s representation of being raised by a family that was of little means. The admission rate at the time was very tight and I find it interesting that a student from Indonesia was able to pass the tests to get into the school. Perhaps he got into the school because he was a “foreigner”..perhaps not. Punahou must have seen his birth certificate prior to his admission but I would think we would have heard from some former administrator that isn’t an Obama fan if there is something more to the story. However, the document produced is in fact, only an acknowledgement of live birth…not the birth certificate itself. The Truth is correct..but I doubt we’ll ever see a copy of the birth certificate.
Since I won’t ever see it, I’m going to enjoy his first term as President. I get to chuckle when:
-he can’t lower taxes for the middle class as he promised..it would cost too much money.
-he doesn’t dare raise taxes on business…there would be no job creation nor investment back into the community
-he’ll keep troops in Iraq
-he makes more asinine appointments like he did when he added Governor Granholm to his economic advisory panel.
-he won’t get our country any closer to being “green” but will continue to talk about it in his State of the Union addresses
-I’ll get to watch him blame the Bush Administration for everything that goes wrong in his first term.
-I’ll be able to sit back and watch the Press give him a break on all the mistakes he’ll make and the gaffes Biden makes
I’ll not chuckle, however, as I watch the number of abortions increase in the US during his administration.
