Slay, Coleman, Dooley all named to Missouri census committee

Gov. Matt Blunt today named a group of citizens to a committee that he established to raise awareness about the upcoming Census count in 2010. The count is significant for Missouri because early predictions show the state might lose a congressional seat and Census counts also affect some federal funding. Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder is heading the committee.

Some key local members of the committee include St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, Sen. Maida Coleman and St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley.

Here are the appointments:

Jane Brown, of Kansas City, is a retired associate circuit judge for the 7th Judicial Circuit. Her appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Thomas J. Carlson, of Springfield, is the mayor of Springfield and helped form Carlson Gardener, Inc. Mr. Carlson holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from George Washington University and is a graduate of the University of Missouri- Kansas City School of Law. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Adolfo Castillo, of Joplin, is self-employed as a consultant working with local politicians to promote Hispanic involvement in government issues. Mr. Castillo holds a bachelor’s degree in occupational education from Wayland Baptist University in San Antonio, Texas. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Kathy Chinn, of Clarence, is a former member of the Missouri House of Representatives. Ms. Chinn is a farmer and pork producer. Her appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Maida J. Coleman, of St. Louis, is the minority leader in the Missouri State Senate. Ms. Coleman holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Lincoln University. Her appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Anna E. Crosslin, of St. Louis, is president and CEO of the International Institute of St. Louis. Ms. Crosslin is a graduate of Washington University. Her appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Charlie A. Dooley, St. Louis, is the St. Louis County Executive. Mr. Dooley is a former member of the U.S. Army. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Steve E. Ehlmann, of St. Charles, is the St. Charles County Executive. Mr. Ehlmann holds a bachelor’s degree from Furman University, master’s from the University of Missouri-Columbia and juris doctorate from Washington University. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Gwen Grant, of Kansas City, is the president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City. Ms. Grant holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Park University and master’s in business administration from Rockhurst University. Her appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Greg Grounds, of Blue Springs, is a member of the Jackson County legislature. Mr. Grounds is the former mayor of Blue Springs. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Doug Hermes, of Liberty, is with Community Development Consultant. Mr. Hermes holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Emporia State University and master’s from the University of Iowa. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Matt Hesser, of Jefferson City, is the state demographer. Mr. Hesser holds a bachelor’s degree in geography from Northwest Missouri State University and master’s in geography from Oklahoma State University. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Ed Hillhouse, of Villa Ridge, is a former superintendent of schools. Dr. Hillhouse holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Missouri State University, master’s from the University of Missouri-Columbia and doctorate in education administration from St. Louis University. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
William S. Jenks, of Rolla, is the mayor of Rolla. Mr. Jenks holds a bachelor’s degree from Westminster College. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Gerald Jones, of Jackson is the presiding commissioner of Cape Girardeau County. Mr. Jones holds a mater’s in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Matthew (Rusty) Kahrs, of Hughesville, is the Pettis County Presiding Commissioner. Mr. Kahrs served in the Missouri National Guard. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Carolyn Loraine, of Lake Ozark, is the Camden County Presiding Commissioner. Ms. Loraine holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from St. Louis University. Her appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Brian Munzlinger, of Williamstown, is a member of the Missouri House of Representatives. Rep. Munzlinger holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Claudio E. Perez-Korinko, of Kansas City, is president of IM International Marketing, LLC. Mr. Perez-Korinko holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in management from Baker University. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Robbie Myers, of Poplar Bluff, is the Butler County Commissioner and vice president of Three Rivers Community College. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Don Reimal, of Independence, retired from Greiner-Fifield Lithography, Commercial Construction. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Jorge Riopedre, of St. Louis, is owner of Carismedia, Inc. Mr. Riopedre holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Loyola University. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Francis Slay, of St. Louis City, is currently Mayor of St. Louis. Mr. Slay holds a juris doctorate from St. Louis University School of Law and degree in political science from Quincy College. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Brenda K. Shields, of St. Joseph, is the president and CEO of the United Way of Greater St. Joseph. Ms. Shields holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Royal (R.T.) Turner, of St. Joseph, is the Buchanan County Presiding Commissioner. Mr. Turner retired as a chief warrant officer in the U.S. Army in 2007. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
Dennis F. Wood, of Kimberling City, is a member of the Missouri House of Representatives. Rep. Wood attended Cedarville College and Drake University. His appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.
