Here’s a statement, just e-mailed in, from state Republican Party chairman Doug Russell:

“Missouri’s performance in the face of a Democrat tidal wave that swept the nation was impressive. We re-elected our incredible Lt. Governor Peter Kinder. We were the only target state that Senator McCain won. We picked up three seats in the state senate and maintained our strong majority in the state house.

“Tonight’s victories have proven that when we govern well, stick to our principles and focus on improving people’s lives we can win in any environment. Missouri Republicans remain committed to doing the people’s work and moving our state forward in a positive direction. We congratulate all candidates on a hard fought campaign and look forward to working together for the good of Missouri.”

“Well, other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?”

This Mr Doug Russell has his head in the sand. If I tried a similar explanation with my boss after such a dismal failure I would get a pink slip. This Republican Russell should get to find out what it is like in the unemployment office like somany of his fellow citizens are experiencing, typical outof touch Republican.

Here’s a statement from someone who used to cover politics: So much for Missouri’s reputation of voting for the person who wins the Presidency. Didn’t happen this year. The horses you backed didn’t cut the mustard. Hulshof, Gibbons, etc. You can win in any environment? Do you really know what the public environment is? I don’t think so. Campaigns aren’t won by candidates, they’re won by well organized campaigns with a sharp staff. State senate and house races don’t have staffs so the candidates are seen by us as “what you see is what you get.” Bigger races, the “what you see is what you get” is the coordinated campaign’s ability to deiliver the message. You didn’t deliver the message well in ‘08. Cutting Medicaid in ‘05 wasn’t on the radar screen with your message. But it certainly was indelible on the minds of voters. You’ve got two years to reorganize, just like the national committee, which also managed an election disaster. Good luck, you’ll need it.

GOP had their arses handed to them statewide and I supported a slew of losers.

I haven’t checked, but I bet the St. Louis and Kansas City areas determined our statewide offices.

I am scratching my head on the Koster-Gibbons race. Koster was a republican until a few months ago and all he had to do was switch parties and whammo he wins. Are democrats that gullible?

Believe me, Amazed, many of us had to hold our noses when we voted for Koster. We’ll see how he does, but could it be any worse than a nut like Gibbons?

I knew we were going to lose in July when I took my daughter to an all day concert at Riverport. While we waiting in line to enter, there were no less than 50 Obama volunteers canvassing the line asking for emails, offering to register voters, etc. I emailed a ranking GOP leader from my blackberry to report how impressive this was. Never heard a word back. After it was clear it was McCain, I tried to get a bumper sticker. None avalable. Yard signs were late. I sent messages about poll challengers. I did receive at least four pieces of direct mail every day for months. Except for Kinder, I saved my money, I knew what was coming. Here’s a suggestion. We need to get rid of all these 20-something social science majors and replace them with adults and I mean new adults. It is time for the people to take back the party or start a new one. In four years it is imperative we get rid of Claire. It is going to take that long to defeat even the residue of the Obama machine.
