This old house: Blunts to leave mansion in better shape

When Gov. elect Jay Nixon and wife Georganne move into the governor’s mansion early next year, they’ll find the residence in better shape than it was four years ago.
Though Gov. Matt Blunt and his First Lady Melanie spent plenty of time in their permanent home in Springfield, Mrs. Blunt also focused lots of energy on restoring the Renaissance Revival mansion in Jefferson City.
She pushed the General Assembly for up to $3 million in state money to make major repairs such as replacing the roof, and helped raise more cash by selling the old roof tiles on eBay.
Later, she hosted a luncheon with previous Missouri First Ladies as a fundraiser for Missouri Mansion Preservation Inc., the non-profit agency that maintains the 137-year-old house, which has been home to 33 for governors.
On Monday, the governor and first lady held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the first phase of renovations — just in time for the new occupants.
I recall reading about this months ago - good for the Blunts. Leaving both our state and the Governor’s mansion in better shape than when they got here. Let’s hope Nixon’s rapper son doesn’t open up a studio in their new Jefferson City digs….there goes the neighborhood.

How exactly is Blunt leaving the state better than when they got there? Do you honestly believe Missouri is better today than 4 years ago? Let me guess, you probably also think the country is better off today than it was 8 years ago.

bean, if you are like me and truely believe that the person sleeping in the gov’s mansion or the white house has little effect on my plight in life. I have been better off in each successive year since I finished college in 1996. I plan to continue that trend and if by chance I find myself not going good, I sure as hell won’t blame it on Nixon, Obama, or our next gov/prez.
Garrison, kids don’t get medicare, old people do. Kids get medicaid and it’s the job of the dumbass parents to apply for it. I guess it’s blunt’s fault that the parents are too stupid to sign their children up for free healthcare.

By Governor Blunt’s own definition of “deficit,” I think we will soon discover that he will have left Governor Nixon with the worst deficit in Missouri’s history. Fortunately, Governor Nixon will have the Republican leadership in the House and Senate to solve the problem they helped create.
