U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway, the former speaker of the Missouri House, said today she is not considering any proposals to make her the new chairman of the state Republican Party.

“I am most definitely not interested in the Republican party chairmanship,” she said in a voice mail message left on my cell phone.

Her comment is in line with the behind-the-scenes talk over the last several days, even though she is believed to be the choice of U.S. Sen. Christopher “Kit” Bond, R-Mo.

As we reported over the weekend, the front-runner to replace outgoing chairman Doug Russell of Lebanon is said to be Lloyd Smith, the longtime chief aide to U.S. Rep. Joann Emerson, R-Cape Girardeau.

Jo,

Hanaway contacted the media about this a week ago. Were you left out of the loop?

Why is she talking politics so much on taxpayers time? That viking helmet must be shutting off the blood flow - U.S. attorneys are supposed to be non-partisan and non-political. Her mentor Kit Bond of course never saw it that way.

To Jim: We reported this last week as well, and referred to the talk about Hanaway. But we weren’t able to get ahold of Hanaway herself until this week.

hanaway is about as non-partisan as a Ho-Ho is non-fattening.

She is a cookie-cutter right-wing idealogue who follows the politics of hate along with her cronies–look no further than her nasty rhetoric on the ridiculous Amendment 2 (gay marriage) wedge issue that she spouted during her FAILED run at being governor.

She is a Blunt clone.

Hanaway has higher aspirations that Bond may not be able to fulfill, unless he chooses not to run in 2010.
