Get ready for Missouri’s biggest pot luck in history

Proving that even fierce rivals can work together, Gov. Matt Blunt today signed an executive order that will ease the way for Gov.-elect Jay Nixon’s inauguration.

Blunt’s order will close all state offices in Cole County on Monday, Jan. 12, the day Nixon officially becomes governor and Blunt goes back to being a private citizen.

Nixon, obviously learning from the inaugural of Gov. Bob Holden — which needed about $1 million in private donations to be paid off — has suggested the inaugural will be the biggest pot luck in Missouri history.

Probably a bit of an exaggeration, but I hope somebody brings deviled eggs!

I don’t know that a potluck for an inauguration is a good idea or that it will be allowed. just seems like there are too many things that could go wrong.

So the Governor is closing state offices in Cole County. How does he do this? Does he put the state employees in Cole County on administrative leave? Why does he need to close all state offices? The inauguration takes place at the Capitol. If he closed the offices around the Capitol it should make things go smoothly. The offsite departments could still operate. Is the inauguration a state holiday? If it were all state offices would be closed. This doesn’t make much since. I guess state employees that have to work simply have to work but the ones that live in Cole County get an extra day off?
