St. Louis Comptroller Darlene Green, cruising to the spring primary, will host a holiday party tonight at the Carpenter’s Hall on Hampton.

Special guests include U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill and city Treasurer Larry Williams, who was re-elected in November.

Green has as much to celebrate as anyone at City Hall. She looks to be unopposed in the March primary and April general election, which would give her a fourth full term in office.

The shindig begins at 5:30 p.m.

How in the world does Darlene Green get a free ride here? First off, she NEVER shows up for work. If you look in the parking circle in front of city hall you’re lucky if you see her car once a week!! Second, what does she really do anyway? Does she have any accomplishments?

Here are just a few of Comptroller Green’s accomplishments that come to mind.

Saved taxpayers $80 Million through refinancing outstanding debt.

Raised the City’s credit rating to an A+ in May 2008, the highest rating in 35 years.

Balanced the City’s budget through timely debt refinancings.

Used the City’s strong financial position to help leverage more than $6 Billion in development throughout the City of St. Louis.

Wisely kept the City out of the auction rate and variable rate bond market, saving taxpayers millions in increased interest payments.

Opened access to City government by displaying hundreds of City audits online.

Initiated a City government-wide policy in 2004 requiring all City employees use personal codes for long distance calls saving thousands of dollars.
