Jeff Smith seeks tax break for hybrid owners

While the Big Three automakers are pledging to become more fuel-efficient as they push for a bailout from Capitol Hill, one Missouri lawmaker is hoping to provide an incentive for consumers.
State Sen. Jeff Smith, a St. Louis Democrat, has filed a bill that would give individuals who purchase hybrid vehicles a tax break of up to $2,000.
The bill is similar to a plan in the House that stalled in committee last year. Seems this year though, with the volatility at the pump and the trouble in the auto industry, the effort might have a better chance.
Do you know of any lawmakers that drive hybrid cars? The only one that I know of is Phyllis Young, alderman of the city’s Seventh Ward.
Why only $2000 and not for the entire purchase price…
It’s not Jeff Smith’s money, so why just the miserly two-grand?
Maybe when Mr. St. Louis Democrat gets to Washington he can meld himself into a Nanny State regulator just like Henry Waxman has done:

It was a stupid idea before Jeff Smith proposed it and it is still a stupid idea. If I want to buy a hybrid, I will. I don’t want to subsidize others buying hybrids.
Seems MODOT says they need money. Why not use the amount it would cost to give this tax break and spend it at MODOT?
How did the Senate Democrats and their political operation run by the genius Jeff Smith do in the last election?
Obama won as did five of six of our statewides. The House Democrats picked up seats. How about the operation run by Jeff Smith?
How great is this? A democrat wants to give tax money to people that purchase hybrids. The hybrid market currently dominated by foreign companies will get a taxpayer funded boost to accelerate the demise of the Detroit 3.

I guarantee you that Jeff Smith had the support of many if not all unions including the UAW. Now he is slapping them in the face in their most desparate times. Yet they will blindly follow his slimy butt again during the next election.
The higher they fly, the more they shoot at you.
Outside of Clint Zweifel, Jeff Smith is the hottest Democrat ticket in Missouri. Our party needs young rising stars like them, not a bunch of bitter trolls blogging out of personal vendetta.
Get over it- this is a good bill and y’all are just jealous you didn’t think of it.
