McCaskill pushing McCulloch for U.S. Attorney?

McCulloch
Post-Dispatch gossip queen Deb Peterson reports today that U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill is said to be pushing St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch for the position of local U.S. Attorney, a presidential appointment.
McCaskill, as Peterson points out, knows McCulloch from her days as the top prosecutor across the state in Jackson County. And, of course, she has the ear of president-elect Barack Obama after emerging as one of his top surrogates in the campaign.
As Jo Mannies relayed last month, McCulloch’s alliance with McCaskill also stems him from breaking ranks with incumbent Bob Holden to support her in the 2004 Democratic primary for governor.
Another name Peterson mentions is Gabriel Gore, 39, a partner at Bryan Cave who served as an assistant to John Danforth in the Waco investigation. Gore, a former assistant U.S. Attorney, is also president of the city’s library board, and part of the effort to bring a KIPP (”Knowledge is Power Program”) charter school to St. Louis.

Huh, so Obama is going to get rid of all the Republican U.S. Attorneys? I thought those offices weren’t suppose to be political …
Nicki,
I know you like to cloud the issues, but give as a break. The incoming administration has always been able to pick their prosecutors. The problem with the Bush administration was that they were replacing prosecutors, already selected, for failing to take action in specific cases in a partisan manner.Appointing a prosecutor with experience like McCulloch to the office, would certainly be a step forward for law enforcement.
southcountymike,
McCulloch is a terrible choice after his Obama Stormtruther episode. With his threats to prosecute political speech — he’s now 100% radioactive.

If it’s not supposed to be political, why are you describing them as “Republican U.S. Attorneys?”
Let me get this straight….U.S. Attorney’s serve at the whim of the President?
Nor do McCaskill and McCulloch see eye to eye on many matters of law, justice and the handling of it in ways that actually benefit society and rehabilitate criminals.
I realize that they go back a long way but I cannot imagine McCaskill pushing McColloch for such a position because he is way too bull headed to mesh well within the ideals of the Obama team. But, miracles I do believe in and just maybe McCulloch has experienced a rebirth.
As far as our present U.S. attorney Catherine Hannaway, I cannot see how any Republican out of Missouri would work in such a position under the Obama administration, Obama will be hard pressed to find any existing prosecuting attorney here in Missouri Democrat or Republican to fit. Hannaway is way too deep a political figure within the Republican party for the position which is suppose to be non-partisan. So is McCulloch for that matter. However, Hannaway appears to be quite a decent humble hearted and smart individual. I hear that she and Jennifer Joyce are very good friends which tells me that she must be an awesome human being.
I don’t know who this gossip columnist is but there is no way on earth Obama would be considering this Gabriel Gore, an individual whose mind-set is formed and molded to defend corporation criminals (bad, bad, corporations and white color crimes). This person would be useless on behalf of the people.
Certainly there are others on the list for the position other than the two that Deb Peterson is gossiping about here. (lol).
I think if McCaskill wants him, and if McCulloch wants it, its his. My question would be if the GOP can get off their butts and reclaim a county-wide seat like Prosecutor. GOP (formerly the party of tough on crime), should be lining up people. Michael Gibbons, are you listening? Fresh off an AG run, maybe he should go for it.
My grandmother has always told people, “be careful what you ask for”. I have asked for many years why wouldn’t anyone run against McCulloch, desiring it greatly. Listening to “Purple leader” it is a fact that McCullough certainly isn’t as bad as it could get. (Lol).
Who knows, hopefully McCulloch’s heart is un-hardening. After all, all things are possible. It would be great to see McCullough fitting in with the McCaskil and Obama like mind-set. I must admit, I just can’t see it happening though.
