The Missouri Republican Party usually handily outspends its Democratic counterpart in major statewide elections, but that wasn’t true — to a point — on Nov. 4.

The 30-day-after-election reports filed this week by both parties paint a portrait of state Democrats flush with cash, with the state GOP lagging behind — moneywise — until a surge of Republican dollars poured in at the end.

Overall, the state Democratic Party reported raising $6.16 million and spending $6.25 million for the Nov. 4 election. But most of that money came and went early. During the final week of the election, and the few weeks ago ( 0ct. 26- Nov. 29), the Democrats collected $427,485 and spent $898,343.

The state Republican Party, meanwhile, reported raising and spending about half as much — $3.13 million raised and $2.87 million spent. But the GOP got a last-minute flurry of funds from Oct. 24 on ($946,299) to almost match the Democrats in final spending ($818,380 for the GOP).

So who were the last-minute donors?

Both parties were bolstered with help from other arms. The state GOP got $355,000 from the state House Republican Campaign Committee, $150,000 from state Senate GOP’s Majority Fund and almost $100,000 from the Graves brothers ($25,000 from former U.S. Attorney Todd Graves and $73,350 from the congressional campaign coffers of U.S. Rep. Sam Graves, R-Tarkio, who apparently was feeling pretty confident at the end that he was defeating Democratic challenger Kay Barnes).

The Democrats got $100,000 from now-Gov.-elect Jay Nixon’s campaign coffers, $72,000 from the state House Democratic Campaign Committee, and $62,700 ($50,000 in the last week) from Secretary of State Robin Carnahan’s campaign committee.

Both sides also got some private help in that last week. Peabody Energy gave $100,000 to the Democrats, while Peabody Investments (both appear to be arms of the same parent Peabody) gave $25,000 ($75,000 overall) to the GOP.

Multimillionaire Rex Sinquefield gave $50,000 to the state Republicans, and AmerenUE’s PAC kicked in $10,000 ($15,000 overall).

Both parties got money from the payday-loan company QC Holdings ($16,000 to the Democrats and $10,000 to the GOP).

All this does is confirm for you that you “State Representatives” DO NOT work for you. They work for the corporations. Your JOB is to keep your mouth shut and follow the herd off the cliff. It’s your patriotic duty in order to keep the wealth gathered amongst the Top 1% of the ruling class.
