More on Jesse Jr.’s Campaign for Obama’s Senate Seat
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - We reported yesterday how U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., D-Ill., requested an interview with the Post-Dispatch as part of his unusual, all-out campaign to pressure Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to appoint him to fill the vacant U.S. Senate seat of President-elect Barack Obama. (Here’s the earlier Political Fix report; Here’s The Platform’s take, with audio of the interview)
Jackson is leaving no stone unturned. Here he is making his pitch on MSNBC’s “Hardball” the other day, followed by analysis by Chris Matthews and friends. (The clip was brought to our attention by CapitolFax, which is Springfield’s version of the Drudge Report, only better).
Make sure to watch the clip through to the end. NBC Political Correspondent Chuck Todd offers a pretty astute theory as to why Blagojevich might appoint Jackson, with whom he has clashed over the years, while also making clear just how thoroughly the governor’s image problems at home have been transferred to the national stage.

Image problems? The governor has far more than image problems. He has governing problems, due to his harsh, uncompromising approach, even toward members of his own party. And he may well have legal problems as well. To call it an image problem is a piece of charity which Mr. Blagojevich has not earned.
Nick–for once, we agree. I have friends who live outside of Chicago and they were filling me in on some of the issues with their governor–if half of it is true, he could be in for some major problems.
Now–separate and totally unrelated issue–for all of you who post her regularly…someone sent me a link to an LA Times story about right-wing freakshow Ann Coulter having her jaw wired shut (serious story-she apparently broke it last month)–as I scrolled through the various comments, one jumped out at me from a poster named “Sage.”
Sound familiar?
Anyhoo-this “Sage” was defending the de-lightful pig known as Coulter and saying how she speaks the truth.
Sage–was that you, you wascally wabbit??? Be honest now…it sure sounds like you–defending the indefensible.
I am a Hard Core D but D’s have no business defending Blago. R’s shouldn’t have defended Blunt either. Come to think of it Blunt and Blago what a pair.
If Missouri would offer an even swap of Blunt for Blago, 80% of Illinoisians would take it.
