Slay

Don’t look now Maida Coleman, but Mayor Francis Slay just announced support from more than half of the Board of Aldermen, as well as the head city Dem, and a former governor.

With less than two days left to file, Slay this announced endorsements this week from 16 alderman, in addition to Brian Wahby, chairman of the city Democratic Party, and former Gov. Missouri Bob Holden.

The endorsement announcement also includes several Democratic committeemen, including the 23rd Ward’s Francis R. Slay, the mayor’s pop. The mayor also announced the support of City Hall’s only Republican alderman, Fred Heitert, whose ward includes Slay’s new home near Carondelet Park.

Coleman, who has represented the city as a State Senator the last eight years, is expected to fill against Slay sometime before Friday at 5 p.m., the dealine to join the March 3 Democratic primary.

The question is: Will she have enough time to pose a true threat to Slay?

The answer. Yes. This is no surprise–they are a bunch of politicians who are under the belief that money buys elections. Just like Slay flipped from Hillary to Obama, they’ll flip once the amount of discontent with Slay becomes apparent at the ballot box. Obviously he is running scared of opposition or he wouldn’t be thinking he needs to get endorsements before opponents are fully known. If he was confident he’d be confident of getting the endorsements after all the opponents were formalized.

We are not able to use the Board of Election Commissioners website to see who all has filed for the top spot; the Board has not updated the online list since November 25!

Coleman needs to run. The race will lack any entertainment value otherwise. When the dust settles, Mayor Slay will be continuing his good work.

And the County residents chime in with the opinion Slay is doing good work. Not drawing you into the city, though, now is it? Interesting that those who actually LIVE under Slay’s rule are so much less impressed than those who just look on from the outside or who get tax breaks on their city businesses while going home to the County each night.

Far enough away to see things the way they really are. You are too close to the forest to see the trees. Slay will win comfortably.

Slay wins… the rape of the City continues.

Coleman wins….Slay and the P-D have a hissy fit and lobby the state to take over the city with him as CEO.

Really, though, Coleman has a good chance to win this. People say she cannot possibly match Slays fund raising. Yeah, like that’s all that matters. Besides, she’ll get good money flowing in once she files, I’m sure of that. Anyway, these aldermen supporting Slay should make anyone want to vote for Coleman!

You’re right. I am obviously too stupid to realize how good we have it under Slay. After all, if I live in the city I must be stupid and must be told what is best for me by those who live in the more desirable parts of Missouri, where the smart people are.
