Don’t look now Maida Coleman, but Mayor Francis Slay just announced support from more than half of the Board of Aldermen, as well as the head city Dem, and a former governor.
With less than two days left to file, Slay this announced endorsements this week from 16 alderman, in addition to Brian Wahby, chairman of the city Democratic Party, and former Gov. Missouri Bob Holden.
The endorsement announcement also includes several Democratic committeemen, including the 23rd Ward’s Francis R. Slay, the mayor’s pop. The mayor also announced the support of City Hall’s only Republican alderman, Fred Heitert, whose ward includes Slay’s new home near Carondelet Park.
Coleman, who has represented the city as a State Senator the last eight years, is expected to fill against Slay sometime before Friday at 5 p.m., the dealine to join the March 3 Democratic primary.
The question is: Will she have enough time to pose a true threat to Slay?
