Emerson

Take one name out of the 2010 Senate sweepstakes.

An aide to U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson told the Associated Press today that the Cape Girardeau congresswoman will not run for the Senate seat being vacated by Kit Bond.

Emerson, the aide told the AP, is happy where she is, and looking forward to being the ranking Republican on the House Appropriations Committee’s financial services subcommittee.

UPDATE: Emerson tells Post-Dispatch Washington bureau chief Bill Lambrecht that she won’t run. “My plate is full,” she said.

That’s too bad for the GOP. As a pro-labor Republican, if she could’ve made it out of the primary, she would have been a formidable challenger to any Democrat.

Agreed Ed, while not the type of republican our party needs right now with her voting for the bailout and some of her other moderate-left approaches, she is very likable and very electable. While she gains a ridiculously high percent of her 8th district vote every election, I think that the people of the 4th, 6th, 7th, and 9th would gladly vote her the junior senator.

Ed

I agree. It is a loss for the GOP for she would have been the most formidable so far to toss hats in the race.

Hey, looks like one of the Carnahan’s is getting into the race. Some Kansas City blog has the news.

Jake: Who’s this Ronnie Carnahan? And is he really running for Senate?
