Blagojevich impeachment process postponed

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Illinois Legislature’s drive to impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich has been delayed for a day, as lawmakers await further developments in federal court in Chicago.

The Illinois House impeachment committee, which had been scheduled to meet today, won’t convene until Wednesday (at 3 p.m.), according to an announcement by House Speaker Michael Madigan’s office. The full House, which had been scheduled to convene on Wednesday to possibly consider articles of impeachment, will instead start Thursday.

Blagojevich faces federal corruption charges (including the allegation that he attempted to auction off the U.S. Senate seat of President-elect Barack Obama), and he also faces what appears to be an increasing likelihood of impeachment in Springfield over his alleged crimes and other issues.

A federal judge in Chicago on Monday granted a government motion to release some wiretapped audio to the impeachment committee, but the court is still working out details on exactly what will be released and how.

Something tells me Blago beats this rap. Fitzgerald struck to quick with the arrest. Just talking about committing a crime isn’t a crime.

I hate Blago and his ilk and he may be guilty of a helluva lot of corruption, but on this Senate seat, I think he beats it.

Court should hear the case of White’s not signing Burris paperwork. These folks need to take care of that senate seat and stop playing politics over Rod and his talking nasty, come on guys you look to stupid!!

Blago has been an embarrassment to politics since his days in Congress.

This is just the icing on the cake.

For media types to give the rest of his pathetic career a pass, simply because that’s how Chicago politics is played, is equally embarrassing.

Again, Jim, He may be the sleaziest of the sleazy in Chicago, but this case, to my non-law degree self, looks flimsy.

They have him on tape cussing and angling for a payback. Never did a payback occur. Can you be arrested, indicted, or impeached for that? Fitzgerald fired too quickly. No one’s safety would have been imperiled if he would have let the game be played for a few more quarters. Then he could have busted Blago and the Senator that bought the seat from him, along with any other players.
