Robin Carnahan

In the new world of political marketing, social networking sites such as Facebook are all the rage, and in that regard, Democrat Robin Carnahan, or those backing her at least, has a leg up in her run for U.S. Senate.

Carnahan, who was sworn in this morning as Secretary of State in Missouri, is considered the front-runner in the now wide-open run for U.S. Senate in 2010 when Sen. Kit Bond retires.

Within minutes of Bond’s stunning announcement last Thursday, there was already a “Robin Carnahan for US Senate” page on Facebook.

Haven’t found any yet for other candidates. If you see them, pass them on to tmessenger@post-dispatch.com, or come by my own Facebook page and drop me a note.

The likely Republican candidates for the election will be U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt, former U.S. Sen. Jim Talent and former Missouri Treasurer Sarah Steelman.

UPDATE: An alert Political Fix reader let me know in a matter of minutes after this post went up that Steelman, too, has a site drafting her to run for Senate.

Is there a Facebook site to tell Steelman to pack her stuff and go home?

Hey Tony, I know you Posties are in the tank for Carnahan … but did you really intend for the “my own Facebook page” link to bring up Carnahan’s page?

Nick,

I see you didn’t take a “I’m gonna be a nice guy” New Year’s Resolution in 2009. While I’m in the tank for nobody, I’ve fixed the link. I think. Glad to have you join my little Facebook family.

Tony

Tony - Please don’t mistake my sarcastic digs for unkindness. But you are certainly right, no nice guy resolution here. Anyway, the new link didn’t work either. I tried searching for Tony Messenger, but there were 3 pages of them, and I have no idea what you look like. Retry?

Hey Tony,
Maybe you should write another big article about Steelman’s facebook page. I would be that even if Steelman had the facebook page first, there was no article on Post Dispatch outlets hyping it, but as soon as Carnahan got a facebook, boom there is the article letting everyone know about it!
Oh, and yes, I dont believe for a minute that anyone at the Post is in the tank for any democrats…who could say such a thing! (detect any sarcasm here?)
