Follow Gov. Blagojevich on Twitter
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - While Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s trial moves forward in Springfield and while the governor hops between media appearances, his public relations firm is Twittering his every move.
Twitter is a free social messaging Web site where users send short, frequent updates about what they are doing to friends, family and anyone who “follows” them. The updates are delivered to users’ e-mails or cell phones.
Blagojevich’s firm, The Publicity Agency, has been posting Twitter updates several times an hour all day.
“CBS Evening News interviewing gov for report tonight… Then off to Fox and Friends,” said one Twitter Tuesday morning.
“Before the interview, staff at Fox Business wanted a photo with the Gov. Wherever we go, people wanting autographs,” said another Twitter this afternoon.
Sometimes they Twitter several posts within just 5 minutes:
“Gov sees his own name on crawl over Today show set… Comments on it.”
“Gov to the people of Illinois: ‘I did not let you down’”
“Gov: ‘If they don’t change the rules I’m going to need to find another line of work’”
Glenn Selig, who works on Blagojevich’s account for the firm, said Twitter is “a great way to inform the public and the media at the same time.”
“I think there is an interest in what (Blagojevich) is doing, not only by the media but by the public. We thought this was a great way to keep people up to date,” Selig said. “This way everybody can get a kind of play-by-play and I think it worked really well.”
Selig said the company had a Twitter account set up for breaking news updates, but the up-to-the-minute posts of the governor’s whereabouts were the first of that kind the company has posted.
