I spent the long, cold day yesterday with a group of Ritenour High School students. The students are members of Partners in Achievement, an organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap between White and minority students. The students raised the money to attend by selling candy bars, asking for support from friends and families and finally through a partnership the students gained with Alberici.

Achievement gap goal between minority students and whites is GREAT IDEA! AND so very needed for the good of this country. When teaching I asked my students to learn to speak as the people who do the news on Channel 4 and 5 speak - and as Obama speaks - using English correcting. NOT “This is they book” RIGHT “This is their book.”

It CAN BE DONE. I had to do this when I was 14 at Mehlville High School - yes all white, BUT my family did not using English correctly - I worked, I listened and I MADE myself speak correctly. YOU CAN ALSO STUDENTS!!!!!

This is the road to the achievement gap. TRY IT? YES YOU CAN!!!
