Jay Nixon appoints John Britt head of Department of Public Safety
Amidst the hubbub at the state capital, Jay Nixon has appointed John Britt, a veteran of the St. Louis branch of the Secret Service, to fill one of the remaining Cabinet positions, director of the Department of Public Safety.
Britt, of Chesterfield, spent 27 years in the Secret Service and in 1999 coordinated security for Pope John Paul II’s visit to the U.S. Since 2002, he has been the senior director for global security at the Anheuser-Busch Companies in St. Louis. Before the Secret Service, Britt was a police officer in University City.
Nixon has Cabinet appointments left for four departments: Agriculture, Natural Resources, Labor and Industrial Relations and Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration.
He has said he will finalize all of his appointments by his inauguration on Monday.

Roseann,
Congratulations on your new job. One thing you need to start doing is letting us know whether Nixon’s appointees contributed to his campaign. Jo and Virginia always did this to Republicans so the same standard needs to be applied to Democrats.
Don’t let the ruin your integrity or your good name.
John Britt did not contribute to any Missouri or federal campaign in 2008.
What a disappointment!!
How could you possibly call that a disappointment? Britt brings years of experience to the job.
What’s so disappointing, stlnative?
Appointing John Britt was an outstanding decision for Jay Nixon. Britt has a strong background in safety and security and is a fine choice for the position. John’s credentials are highly impressive and will do a great job in this postion. Congrats John.
John is an outstanding selection. Gov-elect Nixon and the State are fortunate to have Mr. Britt on the team. All the best BDDC MSH!
