Jay Nixon appoints John Britt head of Department of Public Safety

Amidst the hubbub at the state capital, Jay Nixon has appointed John Britt, a veteran of the St. Louis branch of the Secret Service, to fill one of the remaining Cabinet positions, director of the Department of Public Safety.

Britt, of Chesterfield, spent 27 years in the Secret Service and in 1999 coordinated security for Pope John Paul II’s visit to the U.S. Since 2002, he has been the senior director for global security at the Anheuser-Busch Companies in St. Louis. Before the Secret Service, Britt was a police officer in University City.

Nixon has Cabinet appointments left for four departments: Agriculture, Natural Resources, Labor and Industrial Relations and Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration.

 He has said he will finalize all of his appointments by his inauguration on Monday.
