Jay Nixon was sworn in Monday

Gov. Jay Nixon got right to work as governor, rescinding all of former Gov. Matt Blunt’s recent appointments to boards and commissions.

And this morning, he scheduled a news conference to announce his first couple of executive orders related to implementation of his jobs plan.

After yesterday’s pomp and circumstance, the Capitol is abuzz with real activity today. At 12:30, the Senate hosts its first of several “seminars” focusing on key issues in the Legislative session. Up first? Energy. (Think Ameren. Think nuclear).

Since Governor Nixon was elected by a great majority or Missourians, let him now rule by edict. Let him declare that any citizen who wants to work will have a job. Let him declare that the minimum wage in our state shall be $10.00 an hour. Let him declare that all our our citizens are entitled to universal health care.

Nixon’s election was a blowout in electoral terms - 58.4% of the statewide vote.

I am not going to sit here and act like I voted for Nixon…I most certainly did not. However, I will have to respect him as our elected Governor.
I would like to first comment on Kenrick’s comment…”Let him declare that the minimum wage in our state shall be $10.00 an hour”. Do you have any idea what that would do to our economy? It would be horrible. It is already bad enough a bill raising min wage passed in the past. Here is what would happen…Min wage: $10/hour. Businesses can no long afford to higher many people, so they would only higher a few. Results: many more people out of jobs and now, only the more “skilled” people would be hired. Unemployment up up up! Small businesses who cannot make it with fewer people will end up going out of business. You see…you contradict yourself…anyone who wants a job will NOT get one.

And, BNB…save us from the MO republican economy? Seriously? While I know Blunt had his faults and I do not agree with every step he took, he did well for the economy. The only reason why MO has any money right now is bc of Blunt saving us money. If it weren’t for him, Nixon would have started his term deeply in the red.
