SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - If Gov. Rod Blagojevich is convicted and removed from office by the state Senate, Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn will be sworn in as governor shortly after the Senate’s vote.

The ceremony will take place in the state House chamber.  Bob Reed, Quinn’s spokesman, said they anticipate a full house of state representatives, senators, members of the media and capitol visitors.

Quinn is in his capitol office and has brought his mother, two sons and two brothers with him to Springfield to witness his taking the oath to become Illinois’ chief executive.  In addition to a verbal oath, Quinn must also sign a written one, which has been prepared by state Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan.

Shortly after being sworn in, Quinn will hold a news conference in the capitol press room, Reed said.
