On second thought, Hoskins backs out of Scientologist exhibit
Hoskins
State Rep. Ted Hoskins backed out of an appearance this weekend at an anti-psychiatry exhibit linked to the Church of Scientology.
Hoskins, a Democrat from Berkeley, was scheduled to speak at “Psychiatry: An Industry of Death” at the Jamestown Mall in Florissant on Saturday afternoon.
The exhibit was organized by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, a group founded by Scientologists that shares the same fervent opposition to psychiatry.
Hoskins agreed to speak at the exhibit last week, when he saw a portion of the display at the Capitol rotunda in Jefferson City.
Hoskins said he thought the group was crusading only against teachers giving students behavioral drugs like Ritalin without prescriptions.
“When they told me they were a human rights organization dealing with students,” Hoskins said, “they never told me that they came out of the Church of Scientology.”
After learning about the group’s ties — and that they believe psychiatry is responsible for the torture and deaths of numerous individuals — Hoskins called the organizer and canceled his plans to speak at the exhibit Saturday.
“They misled me,” Hoskins said.

Well, done, Mr. Hoskins. People need to be aware of the Scientology criminal organization’s many front groups. “Citizens Commission on Human Rights” (sic) is one of their main ones. Scientology’s # 1 goal is to “obliterate” the mental health profession, replacing it with Scientology. (Scientology, of course, is a completely bonkers mish-mash of outer-space psycho-drama and insane “master race” fantasies.) Scientologists believe that psychiatry is responsible for, among other things, the Africa slave trade, the Holocaust, income tax, etc. etc. etc. I kid you not. I hope that everyone will visit these sites to learn the truth about Scientology and its many front groups: http://www.youfoundthecard.com, http://www.xenu.net, http://forums.whyweprotest.net, and http://true-scientology.blogspot.com/
Funny, his last line “They misled me”. sounds like a quote from everyone who ever joins the church of scientology.
Glad Ted found out about this before he had made his appearance. Unfortunately, he would not be the first politician to be lured in by misleading representations by Scientology front groups.
Many of us have legitimate questions about the prescription of psychiatric medications. But Scientology just takes things waaaaaaay over board.
I noticed this week that a doctor and bioethicist, Dr. Howard Brody, of University of Texas found himself lured into participating in a Scientology video - also due to misrepresentations. He withdrew his permission to be quoted - but they used footage of him anyway. He’s just seen the video “Making a Killing” and it meets his worst expectations.

Ted should be glad he got away in time.
Good job, Rep. Hoskins!
I’m glad to see that politicians are being forewarned about the deceptive nature of the CCHR & Scientology — before they are duped into being a PR tool for the cult.
One leftover question over all this though: how in the hell did part of this exhibit wind up in the Capitol rotunda? Who let that happen?
Thank you, Mr. Hoskins, for being honest and doing your due diligence as a public representative.
All other public officials should take Mr. Hoskins as an example, and be alert to Scientology’s misleading tactics.
A fair question: Should any organization that acts in this manner receive tax-exempt status?
Representative Hoskins should be absolutely ashamed of himself that he didn’t do his due diligence BEFORE agreeing to be used by this cult and lending his name and his office to publicizing the event. The above story is hardly a ringing indictment of the “chuch” of $cientology which essentially committed an act of fraud in order to get him to speak.
ALL public officials would do good to remember that when it comes to $cientology, watchdog groups exist and they are tiring of cleaning up the bullshit messes left behind by legislative incompetence. As with the New Mexico state legislature and the “Second Chance” program, a CCHR/NarCONon/CrimAnon/Church of $cietology wholly owned subsidiary, legislators failed to do their due diligence and a cult set up a prison in their backyard.
Rest assured that rather than calling the legislator and being quietly helpful behind the scenes, legislators who lie down with dogs will get up with fleas and find the media full of articles about how they full support the ‘church’ of $cientology in ways they never imagined.
There are simpler forms of political suicide, but there aren’t quicker. Let this be a warning to CongressCritters everywhere. As a country we will no longer tolerate the hidden agenda of $cientology and the ridiculous support of a blind legislature. People get impeached for incompetence all the time, Mr. Hoskins. Perhaps you now have a better comprehension of the stakes that some people, particularly the “religiously” insane will go to in order to co-opt the dominant cultural narrative.
NO MORE! Enough with the bullshit, Sir! Start doing your job! You’re supposed to be the cream of the crop, a man of power and influence, NOT a clown who can be easily fooled by an unscrupulous cult.
The more I read about the “church” of scientology, the more it seems it really tries to use deception and lies to recruit members. What’s more, they seem to target the most vulnerable and then charge thousands of dollars. That’s just what most people seem to say. It sounds scary to me.
I’m happy Representative Hoskins learned about this deception and was able to keep himself clear of it. Slowly the public is becoming more aware of the numerous cult of scientology front groups that trick people into giving tacit support to the cult.
^^^^ Long comment is long.
Good job, Hoskins.
Better late than never, Mr. Hoskins. Please thoroughly research all future endorsements before agreeing to appear, and encourage your fellow representatives to do the same.
Just a tip: Applied Scholastics is also a front group for Scientology. Don’t let them sucker you either =)
Kudos to the Post-Dispatch for this coverage!
That “inerview” with Hubbard Jr. is a crock. Hubbard Jr. was unfortunately insane and suffered from hallucinations. There is nothing in any of Scientology texts that supports what he claims. That “interview” is nothing but the ramblings of a madman goaded on by a sensationalist reporter out to make a few bucks.
If you don’t like Scientology, stay away from it. Nobody will try to force you to join their group.
If you want to become brainwashed and enslaved, go see a psychiatrist. That’s their specialty.
Mr Hoskins shouldn’t be blamed for nearly falling for the CCHR spin. This is the kind of thing many scientology front companies will do and indeed the cult of scientology too.
They believe that information about them should be revealed slowly because people cannot cope with it all at once (they’d think they were the bunch of dangerous nutters they actually are), so releasing information in small “acceptable” chunks comes naturally. This is misleading but they do it because it is in their teachings.
I’m just waiting for the obligatory blog comment discussing Hoskins’ “crimes.” The first person to do it gets automatic OT V status, right?
To Glenn Miller, I agree, although I’d add that Hubbard Jr. was not as mad as Daddy.
“If you want to become brainwashed and enslaved, go see a psychiatrist. That’s their specialty.”
Enslaved in the PSYCH ARMY!!! Actually Glenn Miller is just another Brainwashed and enslaved moron in the CULT of $cientology.. IRONY is lost on these ppl.
I WANT OTV STATUS FOR FREE… I would guess he beats his wife for 1000 intrawebz…
One has to wonder if the reason Rep Hoskins agreed was because of the amount of money he was being paid. He obviously wasn’t doing this for free. SO the question is did he cancel because he was indeed “Mislead” OR did he not care, accept the fat check and turn the other cheek. I mean US politicians don’t do this type of thing amirite?
This is a good story for ALL politicians to read. The public is sick and tired of you filling your coffers and not doing your research. Co$ is looking for ANY legitimate Politician as an endorsement to ad validity to it. I personally think he knew Damn well who CCHR was/is and just like the phat check he received MORE then doing the right thing.
Hey Glen
I know someone who got sucked into Scientology, I didn’t know he was a Scientologist until one day, about 4 years ago, he said “Rob here’s a book you should read.” He passed me Dianetics by L. Ron Hubbard. I laughed and said “L. Con Flubbfart ha forget it.” For the first time in the years since I’ve known the guy he displayed anger and I’m talking very angry!!! Verbally with an agressive face.
After that display he went on to talk about the ability to walk through walls, he hasn’t reached that level but he plans on getting there etc…
I’ve also heard of that course from an ex-Scientologist and neither of them know each other.
His son was there he lived it.
All you know is what Scientologists tell you and Scientologist will never admit that what he says is true because they’ll all look like the fools they really are.
I psychicly checked out L. Ron Hubbard last week and yes Scientology is a fictionally created story by L. Ron Hubbard which he made up in order to take money from his brainwashed followers and avoid paying taxes.
Hmm, comments like these always make me wonder if these people actually ever talk to Scintologists, or do the just but into popular internet phenomena.

Sure, do you know any Scientologists who want to talk?
Funny how Anti Scientology people are doing the job that our governmnet and state officials should be doing. Anti-Scientology people have been trying to warn people about this exhibit for years. Perhaps our town and state officials should do their homework before letting this exhibt in their towns in the first place. Never mind speaking at them.
I think the many branches of the governemnt, plus state and town officals should start listening to Anti Scientology peolple and listen to what they have to say about Scientology, all the Scientology front groups and Scientology’s Sea Organization.
I also think that the government and state and town officls should get on the internet and look at the MANY sites available that have all this information readily availabe to them.
They can start out at exscientologykids.com
The heart wrenching stories from the children who escaped Scientology’s Sea Org should be enough to make them go on and research more.
I commend Hoskins for cancelling his speach at the CCHR. But I do hope a valuable lesson has been learned, and I WISH that this information is shared with ALL the states and town officials in the USA, so that this horrific exhibit is not allowed to be set up in ANY state.
The CCHR goes into towns under false pretences(as Hoskins said he was mislead by them) and they should NOT be allowed to set up in ANY town. The CCHR does not mention Scientology to anyone before they set up. They are deceptive and a hate group of psychiatry AND a discust to the Jewish community due to their references to the Holocuast in their exhibit. There is such a thing as freedom of speach yes…. but not if a group is setting up using deceptive information about their exhibit.
I urge Mr Hoskins to alert ALL other states!
Glad to see you back out and also hope that your experience of the deception of Scientology will cause you to consider ways to shut the exhibit down. Freedom of speech is one thing, but an exhibit filled with lies, hatred and deceptions should not be allowed anywhere.
If Scientologists are so against medications, why did L. Ron Hubbard die a Howard Hughes hermit with black teeth, long, dirty, matted hair, fingernails so long they curled under, and a body loaded with Vistaril? Please explain that one to me? See page 107-108 in Andrew Morton’s wonderful and truthful book about Hubbard and his cult….
“As the movement went into meltdown, Hubbard was in hiding, on the run from law for fraud and tax evasion. Those who glimpsed this shadowy character, then living under an assumed name in a remote ranch in Crestor, California, recall that he cut an incoherent, unkempt figure reminiscent of the eccentric billionaire, Howard Hughes. His teeth were black, his lank, shoulder-length hair dirty and matted, his nails long, gnarled, and curling-hardly an endorsement for the lifestyle he had spent years promoting. The ULTIMATE IRONY of his BIZARRE LIFE is that when he died in January 1986, shortly after suffering a stroke, his body was full of VISTARIL, a PSYCHIATRIC DRUG used to calm frantic or overanxious patients. Yet this was the same man who had devoted his life to fighting psychiatrists, blaming them for all the world’s ills.”
Hubbard died January 24, 1986 in a 1982 Blue Bird motor home. He had been injected with Vistaril(hydroxyzine hydrochloride) by intramuscular injection in the right buttock by Dr. Gene Denk. Public documents are on record. Located at San Luis Obispo Sheriff Office, Coroners file #8936.
A great website to get good information is http://www.ronthenut.org
I hope that everyone will spread the message that Scientology is a Dangerous Criminal Cult, and a mind control scheme to get your money.
With ev erything that’s known about the notorious Scientology crime syndicate, it’s a wonder that any politician still manages to embarrassing himself by falling for Scientology frauds and scams, including the rubes who give Scientology;s “NarCONon” fake front our tax money.
With the Internet, there is no excuse for anyone getting rooked and swindled by Scientology
Shea Kauffman: “Hmm, comments like these always make me wonder if these people actually ever talk to Scintologists [sic], or do the just but into popular internet phenomena.”
Anonymous has been protesting across from the Cult every month for the past year. They are more than welcome to send someone out to talk to us. However they seem to prefer to just stay inside and snap pictures of us.
We actually got into a polite conversation with 2 Scientologist ladies back in July. One of them claimed to have been a Scientologist for over 30 years and accused us of being terrorists. When someone asked her to explain her religious beliefs, she immediately “clammed up”, if you’ll pardon the expression.
