State Rep. Connie Johnson, whose run for State Senate was thwarted by a residency challenge, today reflected on her final day in Jefferson City.

The St. Louis was Democrat was initially elected in 2000, putting her at the term limit for the seat she has until new members are sworn-in tomorrow.

“As you know, I have always put my all into serving the people of my district.  I have fought many battles in the House of Representatives–I have won some, and lost some,” Johnson wrote in an e-mail to supporters. “But my eight years in the Missouri House of Representatives has been a very fulfilling time for me, both personally and professionally.  Though I will truly miss each and every person I have worked with over the last eight years, I am beginning an entirely new journey.”

Johnson, 39, got into politics at the urging of the late State Sen. Paula Carter, who was an influential Democratic powerbroker in north St. Louis.

Fittingly, Johnson’s seat will be filled by Carter’s grandson, Chris Carter.

Johnson, a lawyer by training, gave no indication what her future holds, but said in her note that her legislative assistant, Cheri Wilson, will stay in Jefferson City to help Carter.

“With this e-mail,” Johnson wrote, “I am hereby passing the torch.”

That would be “whose run for State Senate”, not “who’s.”

I agree, Nick. Is that why competent copy editors are a rarity? So that readers can stay abreast their grammar skills by noting the errors that should have been caught before the article was published? And to think, the world’s oldest — and arguably best — journalism school is just up the road. Our local media outlets should be ashamed.

I am reading the same blog and I do believe that, contrary to both Nick K. and BJ-JD, it does correctly say ‘WHOSE run for State Senate was thwarted by a residency challenge’.

Our local media outlets’ honor is saved—this time.
