“Rednecks for Obama” crash the inauguration

"Rednecks for Obama" with Sen. Claire McCaskillWASHINGTON — They were on the campaign trail. They were at the Democratic convention.

So why shouldn’t Barack Obama’s quixotic rural cheering squad –  “Rednecks for Obama” — make it to the inauguration?

The crew did indeed, packing up their Jimmy truck and making the drive from Missouri. Their first stop was U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, where they posed for pictures and showed off their caps signed by Obama himself.

The grandson of one of the Rednecks is an aide to Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton, and about four or five of the group’s members are crashing on his floor. (The grandson’s, not Skelton’s.)

“We drove all the way from Rolla to be here,” said Wally Spencer, one of the Rednecks for Obama. “Very nice us of him to put us up like that.”

Of course — who wouldn’t?

Below, video from another group member, Tony Viessman.

I’ve got my bumper stickers…It’s guys like these that make rural Missouri so much of neat place…and home to such memorable “characters” by standing expected rural stereotypes on their ear.

Rednecks may not be so excited when they see what Obama has in store with some of his appointments. Take for instance Cass Sustein, a Harvard Law School Professor, who is slated to run the White House’s Office of Information & Regulatory Affairs. Get ready, folks, rednecks included. He believes animals should not be used AT ALL for food, clothing, family pets or cancer research if rats are used against their will. He considers seeing-eye dogs to be nothing but slaves, supports making sport hunting illegal and phasing out of all consumption of meat. He’s in favor of giving animals the right to sue people. He will oversee regulations and will have the grand opportunity to spread the agenda of such radical animal rights groups as PeTA and HSUS.
The “good ol’ boys” may not be so proud when they see what is in store as the Obama administration unfolds!

Having grown up in a large “farming community” in California, a “redneck” was any one who worked long hours in the fields or outside.

Years ago my middle daughter moved to Colorad for work and got moved in in the early evening. She called us being concerned that all she saw in her apartment complex were people wearing bandanas. I told her not to worry about it too much and to focus on getting settled in. A few days later she calls and says, “Dad, even the black people wear bandanas here”.

Sadly, some folk are more interested in being afraid of the future than they are in trying to build it. They may find themselves sitting in the increasingly irrelevant past with their fears.
