Rep. Hoskins to speak at Scientology anti-psychiatry exhibit
Hoskins
Rep. Ted Hoskins, a Democrat from Berkeley, will speak at an anti-psychiatry exhibit sponsored by a group affiliated with the Church of Scientology.
Hoskins will introduce “Psychiatry: An Industry of Death” at the Jamestown Mall in Florissant on Saturday afternoon.
The touring exhibit, which made an appearance earlier this week in the Capitol rotunda in Jefferson City, has been put together by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, which was founded by Scientologists to further the group’s views on psychiatry.
Like Scientologists, the Citizens Commission believes that psychiatry is inflicting broad damage on American minds and bodies.
The exhibit, modeled after a museum in Los Angeles, features panels “depicting human rights abuses by psychiatry and carry statements from health professionals, academics, legal and human rights experts, and victims of psychiatric brutalities.”

I’m wondering…
- CCHR’s mission :” The Citizens Commission on Human Rights investigates
and exposes psychiatric violations of human rights. It works shoulder to shoulder with like-minded groups and individuals who share a common purpose to clean up the field of mental health and shall continue to do so until psychiatry’s abusive and coercive practices cease and human rights and dignity are returned to all.”
“The exhibit, modeled after a museum in Los Angeles”
There is a big museum in L.A. since 2006
“The exhibit itself is a shameful mishmash of lies, exaggerations and
bad science that would be better …”
You are right about the “bad science” part, the exhibit is after all
about PSYCHIATRY.
Will someone tell me, with all the lies and bad things and exagerations
of CCHR so openly displayed,
How come the APA or the BIG PHARMA are NOT suing CCHR pants off ???
All those black box warnings must hurt the bottom line quite a bit.
Don’t bother.
I know why.
“Human rights abuses by psychiatry”
“Victims of psychiatric brutalities”
So, even if Hoskins had no concept of any connection to the Church of Scientology this exhibit has, those phrases alone should have raised some red flags. Psychiatrists are not going around systematically murdering people (as Scientology claims, and assigns them the blame for the Holocaust and 9/11). They are medical professionals. Perhaps he just saw “human rights” and thought it was something to support, which is why Scientology puts the words “human rights” in a lot of its material, even though it denies its members the human rights to decide for themselves if they want to see a doctor.
Now that he HAS been informed of the CCHR’s notorious association, he should withdraw his offer to speak. If not, he should be ashamed.
@Alain
Why aren’t these companies suing CCHR, you ask?
Simple. CCHR is attacking Psychiatry, not anyone in particular, just the practice. It would be pretty hard for someone to sue over that the same as it would it you slandered the Christian religion.
Now, if they start to attack individual people who practice psychiatry, then you’ll see lawsuits. CCHR aka Scientology is well versed in what not to say. They’ve been down that road many a times.
Kudos to everyone calling and e-mailing Hoskins. No doubt he was unaware of the connection between the cult and this front group, and $cientology’s true motives in asking him to speak.
And chowder, you’re right about Nat’l Fed of Women Legislators. VERY scary. Hubbard’s goal, and now Miscaviges’ is to infiltrate government. We won’t let that happen.
This reflects quite poorly of Mr. Hoskins.
The Citizens Commission on Human Rights is not just associated with Scientology, it is a front group intentionally created to give Scientology a sock puppet with which to commend themselves and their views. Mr. Hoskins is no guest of honor, but a puppet himself brought in to lend credibility to their views. It will all be video taped for every Scientology video posted afterwards. “LOOK AT THIS POLITICIAN WHO AGREEEEEES WITH US LOL!!!eleven!$$!”
How can we trust a politician so easily conned into providing support for a cult’s front group?!?
I’ll reserve judgment on Hoskins until Saturday.
The cult is *expert* at duping public officials into giving them a sound or video bite by misrepresenting their connections and intentions.
Clearly, now, Hoskins has been educated about the true nature of the CCHR.
If he decides not to show on Saturday — job well done. One more person who knows better than to be used as a PR tool for the cult.
$cientology doesn’t like psychiatry because its their biggest competitor. They actually believe that psychiatry was behind the Holocaust. Good luck trying to sell that idea to the public.
Rep. Ted Hoskins, you sir are an idiot and will surely lose your seat over this.
I have personaly done both, Scientology and psychiatric medications, and while drugs were not the awnser, at least my doctor didn’t “fair game” me for stopping medication. Scientology is as much a science and religion as Star Trek. Why would the most powerfull beings in the universe need to resort to crime and blackmail to survive.
I had the privilege of seeing this exhibit in Jefferson City last year and it is quite obvious that you folks who are so against it and its sponsors have never seen the exhibit or suffered through the abuse of a loved one at the hands of psychiatry. If it saves lives or keeps people from being brutalized it makes no difference who is sponsoring this exhibit. Politicians are often attacked for doing unpopular things, that’s nothing new, but Representative Hoskins should be lauded for his decision to speak at this exhibit and to encourage his community to come out and see it. I wish more politicians would stand up for human rights in this country, we’d all be better off. I’m beginning to wonder what “cult” you belong to. Think about it for just a moment, such an exhibit helps protect everyone’s human rights — even yours.
