You obviously have no idea of what you are talking about. First of all, Governor Blunt issued the decree. Governor Nixon has no authority until he is sworn in at noon today. If you will review Blunt’s executive orders, you will see it is he who issued the order.
Second, if you have ever been to JC, you would know why we state employees were given the day off. It wasn’t in celebration or anything like that. Traffic and parking are unbelieveable and they HAD to get the thousands of us out of the downtown area and away from the capital to make room for the inauguration.
You can take comfort that while monitoring the inauguration on-line, I am also working from home today - so you are getting your money’s worth.
Actually, in past gubernatorial inaugurations (including Governor Blunt), ALL state offices were closed. So, this is actually a cut back on inauguration “expenses.”
You know I am beginning to wonder why is everyone so worried about what the other person is or isn’t doing? To the person who is so worried about State Employees being given the day off today because of the inaugration, GET A LIFE! I suspect that you are so wrapped up in what you aren’t getting to do you have no LIFE!
just expressing an opinion….obviously struck a cord. Cole County is a large county, not all employees will be working from home, but bravo for you if you are. I do know in the past, state employees were given the day off, and i realize–with your vociferous reminder of course Gov. Blunt issued the order out of historical precedent and apologize for inferring otherwise.i am merely questioning the logic behind it, especially during these economic times.
Also personally it was frustrating to be unable to conduct urgent business today because a state agency was closed.

Is anyone else upset that Cole County state employees were given a free day off for this inauguration, thanks to the the new governor and paid for by the Missouri taxpayers??!!
