Mayoral candidate Irene J. Smith had scheduled a press conference last night at Vashon High, where the state panel running the city schools announced a plan to close possibly 30 buildings.

Smith was criticizing Mayor Francis Slay for contributions he has accepted from charter school advocate Rex Sinquefield when St. Louis Public Schools police interrupted her. (About 45 seconds into the above video.)

Police, though, eventually let Smith finish.

This was a press conference??

Sounds rather impromptu to me …. you’d think that if she were going to have a press conference, she’d have it where she could be heard.

Terrible idea for a press conference. Vashon was packed, and people were trying to leave to go back to their families! Smith needs a smarter PR effort.

> Smith needs a smarter PR effort.

On the contrary, Miss Smith’s PR effort is well matched to her personal intelligence.

Looks like a press conference to be that was unduly interrupted. Vashon wasn’t packed at 5:30 pm - the time of the press conference. The vashon meeting started at 6pm.

You could hear her just fine until the interruption.

Jake,

What defines a person as a “charter school advocate?”

Your word choices continue to dazzle.

Sinquefield, for anyone who cares to know the truth, wants to shut down public education in Missouri as it’s known– he opposes charter schools and public schools alike. His true agenda? Private vouchers and education rationing. Please consider looking elsewhere for your news. Wagman is failing St. Louis.

She should have pee’d in a bucket…that would have kept the school police at bay. You can’t ask me to forget that she embarrassed our city with such an inarticulate act. That moment defined her character. …and to this day, she’s running around blaming Slay for all of our problems. Think of the progress Slay could facilitate if he didn’t have people like this to work around. Solutions, Ms. Smith please….there are plenty of complainers to go around…lead by example for once in your life. The schools are broken…and you want to keep them in tact? City residents who care about their kid’s education(and safety) have 3 choices: Charter, Catholic or a move to the County.

PT,

As she was giving solutions, she was rudely interrupted. Check http://www.irenejsmith.com for the solutions. You might be very interested in a link on the website entitled Truth.

Irene must be quite a threat if someone feels they need to work around her. If she is as stupid as people try to make her seem, then let her talk so everyone can see how stupid she is. Hmmm. She must not be that stupid.

The people of this city will show you what they think of her and her solutions on March 3rd.
No one seemed to prosecute her for the act you keep talking about. If they could have, don’t you think they would have found her guilty?

Irene J. Smith’s campaign is about her solutions to make this city a City for All.

Rex Sinquefield supports private voucher schools. Charters are just the first step. One step at a time.

Jake your reporting doesn’t seem to be so objective. Do your research and get your facts right. Your reporting is a little off.

Smith’s stand on the issues is quite impressive. I would urge all to attend to your Ward meetimg to find out for yourself. That’s how I found out.
