Surprise: Another Coleman files to run for mayor

Watson-Wesley Coleman

There could be a tricky name game on the ballot for Democratic primary ballot for mayor.

While State Sen. Maida Coleman is expected to file in a few moments, another candidate — attorney Denise Watson Wesley-Coleman – has put her name on the ballot.

Her entrance could prove troubling for Maida Coleman, who already could be concerned about splitting votes with another Democrat, former Alderman Irene J. Smith.

Watson-Wesley Coleman briefly worked for the Board of Aldermen, and, in the past, has served as an aide to the late State Sen. Jet Banks and former Comptroller Virvus Jones.

Given her possibility to confuse Maida Coleman supporters, Watson-Wesley Coleman said she expects questions about whether she is legitimate candidate — or a stalking horse designed to take away votes.

“They can think whenever they want,” Watson-Wesley Coleman said, but she insists her candidacy — inspired by Barack Obama’s victory — is genuine.

You knew it would happen. Can Fred Slay be far behind?

Oh my god ! Well, let me be the first…I call BULLSHIT! This is a plant pure and simple. They tried the same crap in the Hubbard vs. Wright Jones race. In-facking-credible. If this doesn’t confuse people, nothing will. I should’ve known Slay would try some underhanded bull$** like this. YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE AN IDIOT NOT TO RECOGNIZE WHAT THIS IS. Slay knew he was going to have his work cut out for him, what better way to solve the problem than TO PUT A BLACK WOMAN WITH THE SAME LAST NAME IN THE RACE?????? ANYONE who thinks Slay isn’t a crony NEEDS to GET THEIR HEAD CHECKED NOW!

Inspired by Barack Obama? Thats the more generic BS I’ve ever heard. I agree with the above TF. Anyone who thinks Slay is a good guy needs their head examined.

Another great example of TFeguson’s prowess. No wonder the SLPS is in such poor shape and why Maida Coleman had a chance. People are tired of people like Maida Coleman and TFerguson that think things are working if we just went back to the “old” ways of doing things.

That is truly BS.

You post makes no sense. Sorry.

Any guess what? This IS the old way of doing things.

Sorry, if the grammar police are out, I meant to say:

“YOUR post makes no sense. Sorry

AND guess what? This IS the old way of doing things.”

For the second time today, Wow. Just wow. It’s hard to believe people can get away with tricks like this.

On the bad side, yes, this further splits the black and female vote.

However, on the plus side, Slay just gave the Coleman campaign a MAJOR card to use against him in the primary. I’m talking about the “underhanded tricks” type card. If they play it well, she could dig in deep to Slay’s southside base. :)

Anyone who gets confused between Maida Coleman and Denise Watson Wesley-Coleman shouldn’t be allowed to vote at all.

This could work out well. If she is truly a legit candidate then those of us sick of Slay rule can vote for her in the primary, then decide whether she or Maida, or the Green party winner, is the best for the real election. All those people who complain about political heirarchies and insiders, here’s a brand new name for you to consider. Whether she’s stalking horse or not, she’s a new face and that’s what the city needs. And if she is a stalking horse, joke’s on her if she wins, that’d be funny.
