Talent, Loudon interested in running for Bond’s seat?
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Word is that former Republican State Sen. John Loudon of Chesterfield, who lost a bid for state auditor in the 2006 primary, is interested in running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Kit Bond.
Loudon, a social conservative, would appeal to the state’s evangelical base, though may have trouble muscling out party heavyweights like Roy Blunt and Peter Kinder.
Speaking of party heavyweights: Politico reports that former U.S. Sen. Jim Talent — who lost his own seat in 2006 to Claire McCaskill — may try a return to Capitol Hill.

John Loudon is a man of deep integrity, a true fiscal and social conservative, and is a fresh breeze that’s desperately needed in the GOP. His creativity and willingness to stand for what he believes no matter what the cost are priceless.
Loudon would be an excellent choice for U.S. Senate. It’s about time we sent a real conservative to Washington, who will fight for traditional, hard working, Missouri values.
His reputation as a fiscal watchdog, a tenacious legislature, a protector of the innocent and a family man with solid integrity would make him a excellent candidate.
He has my vote!
That would be a tenacious legislator.
Loudon is a nice guy but really not smart enough to be a US senator. Talent (and his wife Brenda, who calls most of the shots), while smart, is a has-been who is all about himself and commands no loyalty anymore. Roy Blunt has good instincts, but a long record Carnahan would exploit; plus the Blunt name (like the Bush name) is too tarnished thanks to Matt. Steelman is short on the IQ scale and everyone knows trial lawyer husband David pulls those strings. The pro-life folks would not help Kinder, handing the seat to Carnahan. The last (and best) person standing is Kenny Hulshof, who has more smarts, values and integrity than all of the previously named.
All the “overflowing” praises for Louden, Talent and even Hulshof are most likely moot. The chances of replacing Bond with any of the above conservatives, with Robin Carnahan most likely to run, are more than highly unlikely. Bond was able to cross boundries - reach bi-partisan agreements and remain amicable within the Republican fold. All of the three aforementioned are quite conservative and even though Missouri voters *barely* went Red in the presidential election, it’s quite doubtful they would choose a staunch, conservative U.S. Senator in 2010. So, discuss as you wish, which of these three Republicans you’d vote for - none of them would come close to being the right one to put up against Carnahan. And, frankly, I don’t know who would be. Truthfully, I don’t know that there is one in Missouri right now who could beat her. Just my opinion, of course.
Loudon’s another phony who cloaks himself in religious morality while bullying through his agenda. His sex offender legislation was not about protecting children, but about controlling a segment of society that he wants to apply to other disfavored groups. To that end he ignored protestations from prosecutors and the Highway Patrol. He craves power, the kind he had in Jeff City.
Talent has his own problems. He lost the Senate seat because he put politics over people, and those people haven’t forgotten. He’s not as clean as his rep, but not as dirty as Bond.
morehouse’ innuendo seems silly. Talent is as clean as they come. His biggest problem is his failure to close the deal in his last two races. I just don’t think he excites people. I am curious about the emotional shots at Loudon over unions, predators and even slapp laws, the latter two baseless. What do you mean he passed the predator laws over the objections of law enforcement? I thought they were singing his praises. I would advise you get some counseling about your Loudon hatred or at least come up with some serious material.
@icst
Ask the Committee staffers about the faxes they were getting from the Highway Patrol. Oh wait, that’s not public info and don’t repeat what I just said. Ask the Committee staffers whether the Legislature listens to any advice they get from knowledgable third parties. Oh wait, that’s just between you and me.
You should know the public personna of politics is not the reality, and it’s not limited to Loudon or the Republicans. The real story is deep inside with the grunts who do most of the work and filtering. On the record, off the record.
As for Talent, it leans more towards re-action instead of action, but the result is the same; putting politics ahead of citizens.
First off, I am sick and tired of the sick incestuous nature of politics. Just because you have a certain last name there is this sense of entitlement carried by such families as Carnahan, Bush, Blunt, Clay, Kennedy, et al…………… It even goes to Loudon with his wife running in the last primary.
Is it not time to bring out new blood and new names into the picture? Are there no Mayors or local elected officials who have the knowledge, education, commitment and background to run for office in D.C.? Why do we have to run on the “old guard?” I say push out the old names and create new opportunities with new leaders.
“Professional Politicians” do not have all the answers. See Rod Blagojevich as an example. Just because your daddy was this or your grand daddy was that IS NOT QUALIFICATION for public office. DO you think Lacy Clay is competent? IF you do then you do need your head examined. Was Jean Carnahan qualified, and literate enough, for the senate? I think not.
Let’s look for someone at the local level that KNOWS THE PEOPLE! You cannont convince me that Robin Carnahan, Jim Talent, John Loudon or any of the other “chosen ones” have ANY clue about the needs of people at the local level. They rely on 20-somthing staffers to get them the information. We need a workhorse in the U.S. Senate you can check in with the people on Meet The Press and check out with the folks at Wal-Mart!
FYI morehouse you might want to look at the bill its self and check your facts. I did and if you want I will post a real copy of the bill and so you can see Loudon is the farthest thing from a sleazy Politician!!!! I used to think like you but then I checked it out for my self and found out differently.
