Watch Mo. House of Representatives opening day from home
Interested in watching the first day of the legislative session but can’t make it to Jefferson City? You’re in luck.
The House of Representatives will post live video of its proceedings on its Web site tomorrow from noon to 2 p.m. It will also be available through the Missouri Research and Education Network for schools.
While the feed will be available for television stations to pick up, the House reports interest so far only from a smattering of stations, including some in Joplin and Jefferson City.
Both the House and the Senate (Web site here) always have live audio of the proceedings.
House spokesman Barry Bennett said this probably won’t be the last live video of the House, although officials don’t have any certain plans.
“Speaker-elect Ron Richard has expressed a lot of interest and really wants to do video two to three times this year,” he said.
During opening day, the members are sworn in. The House elects a speaker and a speaker pro tem, and the Senate elects a president pro tem.
Richard, R-Joplin, and current Speaker Pro Tem Bryan Pratt, R-Blue Springs, are expected to be chosen, as is Senate President Pro Tem-designate Charlie Shields, R-St. Joseph.
