Abortion measure passes Missouri House
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
JEFFERSON CITY — A resolution asking the members of U.S. Congress to reject the Federal Freedom of Choice Act passed in the House of Representatives.
While yesterday’s debate was a bit tempestuous, today yielded few surprises.
The bill’s sponsor Rep. Bob Dixon, R-Springfield, thanked the Democrats for their support, and several times mentioned Rep. Belinda Harris, D-Hillsboro
The measure passed 116-40

Complete waste of time. Missouri has real problems that need to be dealt with, and our legislators should be passing legislation that will DO SOMETHING instead of spending two whole days debating a non-binding resolution on an issue over which they have no control.
They are simply posturing for future votes with conservative Missourians. Waste of the short legislative period.
amazing that the pic of the day on the post front page was that of an infant….i hope you “law makers” realized that after 19 weeks, these infants have fully developed nervous systems, and can hear….no pain killer, nothing administered except cruelty beyond human imagination…next time you “progressives” send someone to jail for kicking a cat, remember what the science of these infants tells you…how vacant can you be, oops, i mean “progressive
The next time you “guys” want to restrict the choices of us “gals”, YOU give birth to the next baby. It’s on the books - too bad if you don’t like it - you can’t change it, and nonbinding resolutions are a waste of time and taxpayer’s money. AND I have news for you - if ABORTION WAS illegal, it would still be available, it would just cost more.
Superstitious idiots… I’m so tired of he right wing nuts. Please go somewhere else to screw things up. Your time is up…
I do not believe abortion is a good thing, although I do realize that making something illegal does make it “magically disappear” like some people believe. Remember prohibition??? That didn’t work either. It just makes it illegal. It will not stop happening. It just means that more poor women will die from having unsafe procedures done illegally and the wealthy will fly off on a vacation to foreign destinations to have it done safely. Lets consider promoting reproductive responsibility instead.. That would go a long way in cutting the amount of abortions. Opps!!! Silly me. The same people who want to make abortion illegal want to keep people from teaching their young about reproductive responsibility.
Elaine says that “if ABORTION WAS illegal, it would still be available, it would just cost more.” GREAT POINT! So how about this, YOU start paying for your own abortions instead of taxpayers shelling out for it. Have as many abortions as you want, but please, please, stop charging me for your decision. You see, I am pro-choice, and my choice is to let you pay for your own abortion. Got it?
Hey! ‘NEMO’ and ‘larry’! Our representatives are doing what we elected them to do, and that is to speak for us. In the mid-90s we had an all Democrat controlled legislature and a Democrat Governor, Carnahan. At that time, the legislature passed a bill banning partial birth abortions in Missouri, but Carnahan vetoed it. But, the legislature overrode his veto with a 2/3 majority. It was the 1st time in a hundred years that a Governor’s veto was overridden and showed just how out of touch Carnahan was with the voters of this State. His own party understood, as they do now, that Missouri is a conservative, anti-abortion majority state, regardless of party affiliation. It is extremely important that our State legislature send a message to the U.S. Congress as to where we stand. Also, Claire McCaskill needs to take note and not make the same mistake that Mel Carnahan made when he had his veto overridden. Although purportedly “one of us” as she stated in her ad that ran in the final days of her campaign when she needed some of the conservative vote, McCaskill has repeatedly voted with the liberal crowd in the Senate. I doubt she can get re-elected in Missouri if she supports FOCA. This is exactly what this resolution is telling her.

Just an added thought. It seems we spend more time teaching our young men and women in schools about the responsibility of operating an automobile on the road so as to not kill or injure someone than we do in the schools teaching reproductive responsibility that would greatly lessen the need for abortions. Information is power. It’s time we get our “head out of the sand” so to speak. Lets do something positive instead of having a bunch of rhetoric on abortion that accomplishes absolutely nothing. It’s time to wake up to the reality of this issue.
