Gov. Jay Nixon says he’s confident Martinez will be confirmed

JEFFERSON CITY — As the delay on Gov. Jay Nixon’s choice to lead the economic development office enters its third week, an anti-illegal immigration group is trying to turn up the heat.

On Thursday, state Sen. Scott Rupp, R-Wentzville, continued his filibuster of Linda Martinez’ appointment, saying he’s not convinced the former Bryan Cave attorney will uphold Missouri’s laws on illegal immigration. Mostly, Rupp says he’s concerned that as director of economic development, Martinez could steer state tax credits to companies that hire illegal immigrants.

Rupp told reporters that Nixon’s office was putting pressure on St. Charles County officials to convince the senator to back down.

Today, the Missourians Against Illegal Immigration group issued a news release saying they had filed a Sunshine Law request seeking documentation of any contacts Nixon’s office had with St. Charles officials. The group is encouraging Rupp to continue his filibuster.

Asked after a speech this morning in Jefferson City if he was concerned about Martinez confirmation, Nixon continued to say that he believed she would be approved by the Senate.

“She’s extremely qualified and ready to get to work,” Nixon said. Asked whether he’d sign a letter indicated she would follow state law, as Rupp has demanded, Nixon didn’t say. But he said, “I think my record in that area is clear, and so is hers.”

So why did she spend 2 years suing the City of Valley Park if she adheres to immigration laws? Just because she has a J.D. behind her name doesn’t make her qualified. She cost the taxpayers in the little City of 7,500 population hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend themselves against her and her buddies at the ACLU. Even when the rule of law prevailed, she continued her attack in defense of lawbreaking businesses and landlords.

I’m proud of the work Scott Rupp and Jim Lembke are doing to make sure we have all the important background information about these officials that Nixon’s goon squad has been trying to hide from us.

Senate Democrats put every single one of Matt Blunt’s appointees under the same intense scrutiny so turnaoubt is fair play. This can’t be good for Nixon’s ulcer but then that means it’s good for the rest of us.

Have a nice weekend Jay!

This person worked tirelessly for free (pro-bono) against the Missouri taxpayers fighting for the rights of illegal aliens to work in Missouri. She cost those taxpayers 250k+ with her efforts and now she wants to do a flip-flop and work for the state ? What could jay Nixon possibly be thinking about with this nomination ? As recently as a month ago the state’s E-verify legislation went into effect which exactly contrary to her position on this matter. This is not rocket science, just simply dismiss her and move on with another candidate !!!

Scott, keep up the good work! It’s so refreshing and encouraging to see someone with principles and courage act on them, especially from Republican Party. Hope the guys in the U.S. Senate man-up to Obama, Pelosi and Reed while we are talking principles.

Martinez is not qualified for the job if she does not respect and abide by the laws of the State of Missouri. She revealed her convictions by the action she took against Valley Park, Missouri. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck…………

All we want is the Law of the Land enforced. Put Americans first. This will be new territory for Ms. Martinez.

Do all in your power to protect Missouri jobs for legal residents authorized to work in the United States; Support and uphold all directives and laws relating to illegal immigration in Missouri; To the best of your ability, ensure tax credits, state grants, and other applicable state financing options will be directed only to individuals authorized to work in the United States and entities that do not hire unauthorized workers; Support the continued use of a Federal Work Authorization (E-verify) as it currently applies to public entities and all entities doing any business with the state.

Gov. Nixon and Ms. Martinez are the same people who, until one “crosses the border” from the womb to the world, champion wholesale, indiscriminate slaughter of the innocent…and they call it “choice”. This being the case, why would anyone expect them to uphold the rule of law or perform any of their duitis with honor? Don’t give up, Sen. Rupp!

ms. martinez is the exact opposite of what we need to lead the economic development of this state.she has proved her stance on the subject of illegal immigration by suing the valley park town for the ordinance they passed, which by the way, should be passed by every town in missouri and all over the country. likewise, gov. nixon is showing that he is also not looking out for the state citizens by even thinking of appointing this pro-illegal alien to this kind of position.we have to stop this from happening and let senator rupp know we appreciate his efforts, but to not vote for martinez no matter what her or gov. nixon signs or promises.
