Kenny Hulshof: Kezer failed polygraph before murder trial
JEFFERSON CITY — In his first interview since Joshua Charles Kezer was released from prison, former special prosecutor and one-time gubernatorial candidate Kenny Hulshof defended his performance in the case and said he “stands by” the jury’s verdict.
Hulshof had refused interviews, including for my column on Friday, but today he agreed to answer questions from a friendly voice, KMOX’s Mark Reardon. Reardon has been critical of the coverage of Kezer’s release. Kezer was released after he was found to be innocent of the murder he was accused of in 1992. He had been in jail for nearly 16 years.
To Reardon’s credit in today’s interview, he admitted he was Hulshof’s friend, before offering the former prosecutor a few softballs to hit out of the park.
Hulshof said he wasn’t ever aware of the notes from a sheriff’s deputy in the case that weren’t ever provided to the defense. He also said that Kezer failed a polygraph before the trial — a point that was not part of the trial evidence.
A 44-page opinion written by Cole County Circuit Court Judge Richard Callahan offers a stinging rebuke to the justice system, including Hulshof’s role in the process.

Over half of Hulshof’s murder convictions were reversed on appeal.
I’m pretty sure that most of the accused were found to be not guilty when a new trial was granted.
This is typical of Hulshof’s “win at all cost” beliefs.
I’m sure glad that he’s not our Governor. He shouldn’t even be permitted to practice law. -It’s the 90% of lawyers that give the other 10% a bad name.
Duh, a failed polygraph is inadmissible in court! As for Mark Reardon, he has as much credibility as non St. Louisan Charlie Brennan. I cannot stand Rush Limbaugh but he is preferable to Reardon and Brennan.
If I was being accused of murder, I would be in a panic. My heart would race, my temperature would increase. You know, the type of things that would make you fail a lie detector test.
I can’t belive Hulshoff even mentioned this polygraph. Sounds like he is in full CYA mode.
If one was to fact check Hulshof’s responses to Reardon’s questions, one would find documentation that refutes every explanation Hulshof offered. It would be nice if men such as Reardon took it upon themselves to actually approach these types of stories with fairness and an appreciation for the truth rather than with an admitted bias for his guests. I would be interested in hearing Reardon interview (in a public auditorium setting) Sheriff Rick Walter and Charlie Weiss.

This link pretty much says it all.
Law enforcement should quit relying on witchcraft like polygraphs. Hulshof knows better. The person just arrested for the the killing of the Washington intern Chandra Levy who apparently confessed to the crime reportedly passed the polygraph and therefore was no longer considered a suspect. He we went on to assault two more women while the press sensationalized Representative Condit’s supposed affair with the intern.
Um, could Kenny Hulshof be any more disgusting? At some point in a person’s life it becomes time to stand up and say “I made a mistake”. Obviously incapable of doing that small thing, this tiny, little fraction of a man can’t even keep his pie hole shut about the incident. His feigned self portrayal of himself as community protector has finally been exposed as nothing more that self bluster. Mark Reardon, what a phony little Rush Limbaugh wannabe you are. Joshua Kezer was raped, robbed and violated by your friend Kenny Hulshof and now by you in your pathetic attempt to redeem your friend’s character which is now forever tarnished. What kind of human being are you Mark Reardon? Are you even a human being? Have you at long last become so deaf to reason and fact with your partisan bias that you feel it necessary to further violate Joshua Kezer, a man who’s had his freedom unjustly denied him for 14 long years for nothing more than the political ambitions of your FRIEND? Mark, you and your FRIEND Kenny Hulshof should be ashamed of what he did to Mr. Kezer 14 years ago and of what you are doing to him now. God have mercy on your souls! I know I won’t!
lawyer? no, lie-yer maybe, give hulshof the polygraph test.
Hulshof told the jury;
“You are our only hope. We put him at the scene, we put a gun in his hand, we put the victim with him, we have got blood on his clothes …”
After the new trial that freed Keezer, Judge Callahan, in his ruling, stated;
“We now know that none of what Mr. Hulshof said in that final summary was true. (The) testimony putting him at the scene is totally discredited. No gun was ever found, and there is no credible evidence that he ever had a gun … There is now uncontroverted evidence that he was not at the Halloween party … New testing indicates there was no blood on his jacket.”
A prosecutor that lies, and the result of those lies, is that a man loses 14 years of his life, should result in consequences against the liar. -Do we have a legal system that punishes liars? -NO
Would Hulshof have ever been elected to Congress had he failed to get numerous murder convictions as a prosecutor? -Probably not. These tainted convictions were like buying campaign airtime. Unfortunately that airtime was purchased with stolen lives.
Someone should ask our Governor if he thinks Hulshof should be held accountable.
