Kit Bond calls Roy Blunt “strong candidate that will unite our party”

KANSAS CITY — Sen. Kit Bond, who turned the political world in Missouri upside-down by deciding not to run for re-election in 2010, is continuing with the rest of the Republican establishment to subtly put pressure on Sarah Steelman to not run for Senate against Rep. Roy Blunt of Springfield.

Here’s Bond’s comments on Blunt’s announcement yesterday that he is officially in the race:

“It’s critical that Republicans have a strong candidate that will
unite our party, place integrity before politics, and put Missouri
first, not rubber stamp big government Washington policies.

“I think Roy’s decision to enter the fray is a positive step in
keeping my Senate seat in the Republican column.”

The turn of events is very similar to the days leading up to last year’s GOP Lincoln Days in Springfield, where Republicans were lining up behind Kenny Hulshof and quietly trying to clear the field for him. Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder complied. Steelman didn’t. And Friday night Kinder gave a dramatic speech pulling out from the race.

Will we see a repeat in Kansas City tonight (where I am now)? Steelman’s most recent statement said she was still considering the Senate race. Will she reprise her role from last year? Or will she pull a Kinder and dramatically show up as a candidate and then get rewarded for her party loyalty by pulling out?

We’ll see. Check back at Political Fix for blog posts from the GOP lovefest, or watch out for more updates still at www.twitter.com/tonymess

Doesn’t Bond have a son or two that he could keep the spot in the family? Hell that seems to be the SOP in Politics these days.

It is time to end this STUPID and INCESTUOUS realtionship we have within politics. Can’t we find someone, ANYONE, that is not part of the political family trees in this state? Those trees have ever DECREASING limbs and fewer branches. The Carnahans are en excellent example. It is a know fact that inbreeding lowers IQ scores.

After all these years of service to Missouri ‘Kit’ Bond is recommending as his successor Father Blunt to continue His Republican drag on our State. Yes, I do enjoy seeing the hung-over Bond’s press appearances, but I will not miss his partisan ways that have held our State back for too long. Hopefully, Missourians will remember their other great mistake of electing Blunt’s son and elect Robin Carnahan!

I’m confused. When did Peter Kinder ever “get rewarded” by the Republican Party for pulling out of the race for Governor?

Is this a joke? What Bond really means is: here is a candidate with a highly recognizable name and relatively few fresh ides, but he will certainly toe the party line….Blunt, Carnahan…can’t we do any better than this, Missouri?
