Mo GOP calls Sec of State Carnahan “a Caroline Kennedy echo”
State GOP executive director Jared Craighead then went on to compare Carnahan to Caroline Kennedy, who briefly made a failed bid for the appointment to the U.S. Senate seat vacated by now-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
“Missourians will not allow her to use her family’s legacy to become Missouri’s second robot vote in the U.S. Senate for Barack Obama,” Craighead said in a particularly sharply worded release. “Her futile attempts will bring attention to the shallowness of her record and raise important questions about her values and experiences in life.”
“To our knowledge, she has never held a stable job in the private sector,” Craighead said. “In an attempt to place her own hereditary claim on a major office, at least Caroline Kennedy could point to co-authorship of a book.”
“…(Carnahan)is best-known for earning judicial rebukes for trying to rig the language of ballot titles. She is an incompetent Secretary of State who consistently chooses politics over people.”
Craighead took jabs at Robin Carnahan’s previous jobs at the Import-Export Bank, and her success in overseeing the successful 1999 effort to oppose Proposition B, which would allow concealed-carry weapons. (The Legislature later overruled that vote, and instituted a concealed-carry law).
He also called Carnahan and her brother, U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan, “loyal foot soldiers” for the Democrats controlling Congress.
Craighead’s emphasis on the Carnahans’ three-generation political legacy is somewhat surprising, given Craighead’s close personal and professional ties to the Republican counterpart: the Blunt family.
The patriarch, U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Strafford, is the most likely GOP contender for the Senate post that Robin Carnahan covets, and which now is held by retiring Sen. Christopher “Kit” Bond, R-Mo.
Blunt and his son, former Gov. Matt Blunt, also both got their statewide start the same way Robin Carnahan did — getting elected secretary of state.

There are Blunts scattered about. There are even a fair number of Craigheads in Missouri politics. I guess you can not count the honorable Jared among the elected Craigheads.
If Jared is so sure Robin Carnahan is an empty suit maybe he should engage her in a debate. She would eat his lunch and still have room for desert.
How typical. When the GOP has nothing constructive to say (& they usually don’t) they call names like 4 year olds and prey on people’s fears & prejudices. Sounds like they’re scared of Ms. Carnahan. But I guess after his son’s utter failure as Governor, Roy Blunt should be scared.
I’m tired of all Blunts, Carnahans, Clays, Bushes, Clintons, etc. etc. Get a real freaking job and stop living on taxpayer money.
The Senate election is two years away. Robin should resign her post so she can campaign instead of the taxpayers paying her a salary for the next two years to do so….It’s total bull that they can openly look for another job while holding on to the one they have.
Before you jump in, that goes for McCain, Palin, Paul, or any other politician. Once you announce, you resign. You can’t effectively do the job you were elected to do if you are campaigning all over the state or nation.
Jarhead is right about Robin Carnahan. But he’s hardly the man to be accusing others of lack of accomplishment …
I cannot believe the stupidity of the GOP. They run a very beatable princess and we run another member of political royalty whose palace was recently tarnished. We need to sweep the country of the professional, royal political class. Where is Peter Kinder? Peter, quit letting these guys shove you aside. It is your time.
This is truly rich! When Robin Carnahan wants to run for U.S. Senate, she is only taking advantage of the family name… the accusations that she has never held a stable job in the private sector remind me of a recent president that proved his lack of executive leadership by making our government much worse in four years when he was “elected.” How would any Republican cheerleader in their right mind follow that type of attack? It seems to me that the Republican strategy of hate, fear and blame still has some heat. It is disturbing.
