SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Illinoisans still can’t get enough of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

A musical version of the saga of the now-ousted governor is coming to Springfield.

“Rod Blagojevich Superstar!” is produced by Chicago’s Second City comedy team and has been playing at the comedy club since early February.

The musical, which traces the drama of Blagojevich and his wife Patti, U.S. Sen. Roland Burris as well as Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, will play five shows in Springfield March 21-22 at the Hoogland Center for the Arts.

The production is a 1970’s style rock opera, particularly a combination of “Jesus Christ Superstar!” and “Godspell.”

Tickets to the originally scheduled two performances nearly sold out within days, causing the Hoogland to add three more Springfield shows.

Tickets for those shows — 4:30 p.m. March 21 and 2 and 5 p.m. on March 22 – went on sale this morning.

I heeded the Hoogland’s warning to be prepared for busy signals on the phone and Web site crashes due to the high traffic and bought my ticket first thing this morning.  The site even recommended buying tickets in person at the box office if you were able.

Tickets range from $20 to $25 and are available by calling 217-523-2787, logging on to www.scfta.org or visiting the box office at 420 S. 6th St in Springfield.
