Missouri State Rep. Rachel Storch has been recognized by a national group that supports moderate Democrats.

Storch has been named “New Democrat” of the week by the Democratic Leadership Council, which seeks to guide the party towards the political center.

The group, once chaired by Dick Gephardt, counts as its biggest success Bill Clinton, who came to epitomize the New Democrat movement.

Storch, who ran Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in Missouri, was honored by the DLC for sponsoring a bill that would offer tax credits for certain biotechnology research projects.

Elected to a third term in November, Storch represents the area around Forest Park and some of University City.

Why would anyone want to be included in a group that has Slick Willie as the big success story?

Actually, the DLC only represents the “political center” if you (like most reporters) are so tone deaf to reality that you think the political center is whatever position is between Democrats and Republicans (who are now, especially in the house, a party of extremists). If you look at actual poll data, the political center is pretty much in line with the Democratic Party platform.

That’s quite an honor. We’re proud of you, Representative Storch!

If Rachel Storch is a moderate Democrat, then Todd Akin is a moderate Republican. Can anyone name one issue where she’s out of lockstep with other liberal Democrats? I won’t hold my breath waiting.

Agreed, Conservative. Rachel Storch is much better than those ridiculous DLCers!
