Monday we told you that Gov. Jay Nixon — a die-hard Tiger fan — was poised to attend his first Mizzou-Kansas basketball game as the state’s fan-in-chief.

And what a game it was.

One question we were unable to answer earlier, though, was where the governor was sitting. Turns out he has his very own section — or, at least, a box.

Nixon, along with wife Georganne and son Will, watched MU’s riveting comeback from Suite 27 — “The Governor’s Box” — at Mizzou Arena.

The suite is actually maintained by the state Democratic Party, which purchased it after the November election and allows Nixon to use it to entertain various groups.

But, on Monday night, Nixon had only family and staff with him — hard to blame him for wanting to focus on the game.

Also spotted at Monday’s Border Battle were State Sens. Jeff Smith, David Pearce, Tom Dempsey and Wes Shoemeyer; State Reps. Bryan Stevenson and John Diehl; and lobbyists Woody Cozad and Andy Blunt.

Senator Smith, whose disgraceful attempt to duck out of a criminal charge for using somebody else’s identification to gain entry to a casino is now set for trial in June, needs to just take responsibility for his actions. People get in trouble every day for using a fake id to buy beer. This is no different.

Ah, come on Nick - it’s a little different. People using fake ids to buy alcohol usually aren’t legally of age to so. Senator Smith’s been old enough to visit casinos for, at least, two or three years now.

I can’t believe Andy Blunt still has clients to lobby for. Nixon’s getting weak.

Actually, its one of two suites with the worst viewing angle of the floor - Southwest corner of the arena, next to the concrete wall.

nick, Your comments over the past two years regarding Senator Smith make you look the fool many times over. He’s one of our most effective state senators and has accomplished much for both his district and the city at large. Of course we can think you’re the moron you are but it’s nice every once in a while that you open your mouth and remove all doubt.

It’s fitting that Jay Nixon has his own luxury seats high above the rank and file.

After all, the arena funded by Wal-Mart wealth would not be there if Jay Nixon - as Attorney General - had not conspired to keep the identity of the donor secret for as long as they could keep the secret.

It is a nice arena but the attorney general should never be part of hiding information from the public.
