Parking division trucks at today's meeting

ST. LOUIS — City parking trucks today were lined up outside the Gateway Classic building, where inside employees of the treasurer’s office learned their duties had been transferred to a private company.

Treasurer Larry Williams — the city’s parking czar — is laying off 73 employees while outsourcing meter maintenance to Duncan Solutions, a Milwaukee firm that performs similar services for other cities.

A representative from Duncan met today with Williams’ employees at noon, telling some of them they could apply for jobs with the company when it begins its St. Louis contract in June.

Other details are scarce because an aide to the treasurer, Michael Green, escorted a reporter out of the Gateway Classic gymnasium, where the meeting was held.

“These our employees, the treasurer’s office,” Green said. “If you’re not an employee, I’m going to ask you to leave.”

so it’s not bad enough to outsource jons to other countries but now to Milwaukee?? but they can APPLY with them, no doubt for lesser wages and benefits. isn’t this ‘city’ business, if so reporters should be allowed in. Larry Williams, you need to outsourced!!!!

And more than likely the company that got the contract got tax incentives for employing H1B visas and is also employing illegals (to do the jobs that Americans aren’t allowed to do).

Is Michael Green illiterate? “These our employees, the treasurer’s office.” What does that mean? How pathetic!!!

So we outsource jobs of city employees to a company that isn’t even based in Missouri let alone St. Louis. Raise the damn fee to park at the meter a dime and keep the jobs in-house. There is a reason companies can do things cheaper, it’s because they do things on the cheap and not as well. Give it time, like most companies who think out sourcing is a good thing will eventually see why the outsourcing company can do it cheaper and will bring it back in house.

I would not be surprised if this drew an Al Sharpton protest. LOOK OUT!

Everyone will probably be upset that this business is taking over, but I thought that’s what everyone wanted. The employees who “re-apply” will undoubtedly get lesser wages and benefits, and the business may be receiving tax incentives for their employment practices, and hey, the business is in Milwaukee, but I thought that’s what we wanted?

I don’t agree with this move but how dumb. I am assuming the employees will have their jobs until June. I bet you there is going to be some messed up city vehicles, parking meters etc. If they have their jobs until June (which is how I read the story) don’t you think you should have waiting until the last minute to annouce the lay off to prevent destruction of city property???????????
