SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - To illustrate their opposition to Gov. Pat Quinn’s proposed tax increase and to push their own stalled economic reform agenda, state House Republicans have tied tea bags to their microphones on the House floor.

As we noted earlier today, state GOP lawmakers rallied earlier for a package of four proposals that have yet to advance beyond committee.

“The public is angry,” said Vicki Crawford, a spokesperson for state House Republicans.

Illinois Republicans generally don’t think an income tax should be considered until the state cuts more spending from the budget.  The tea bags are a reference to the April 15th “tea parties” that occurred around the nation protesting taxes.

Golly, when someone speaks at that microphone they’ll have the teabag practically resting on their lips.

It’s so embarrassing to be a Republican in Illinois. Our so-called leaders are a joke. All they know how to do is play these juvenile games. It’s like they are in an animal house fraternity that wouldn’t let them in when they were in college.

Do they really not get how ridiculous they look? Do they not get that the “tea bagging” joke is on them? Do they not realize they are a laughingstock?
