Jay Nixon stumps for eco devo bill in the House
JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Jay Nixon paid his first visit to the House of Representatives today to campaign for the economic development bill that’s been stalled in the Senate.
Nixon said he’s “cautiously optimistic” about the bill’s chances this week.
“I just feel much better about where we are in the bill,” he said.
He said he’s open to the idea of a “soft” cap on tax credits, which he said would give the Legislature the flexibility to negotiate big deals.
Nixon didn’t have much to say about stimulus funds and the budget, which could be debated as early as today.
“I just want to make sure they get the budget moving and don’t overspend,” he said.
